How to unblock websites at school, Home or Work

Does your school or workplace network prevent you from accessing Youtube or social platforms or gaming sites. Don’t worry! We are here to provide you a detailed guide to unblock websites from any location and from any device. Below are the tried and tested methods to unblock the websites.

  1. Set up a Virtual Private Network (VPN):

The most secure and fastest way to unblock the websites is to use VPN. By using VPN, you will get connected to a remote VPN server that hides the real IP address of your device and allows you to bypass the restrictions for the site and you can connect to the website.

  1. Use proxy server:

The easiest way to unblock websites is by the use of public web proxy. It may not be as secure and fast as VPN. But while using the public devices that don’t allow you to use VPN then in such scenarios you can use proxy servers. Proxies hide your IP address and divert your traffic from different public servers.

  1. Change device permissions:

This method works if only you have administrative rights to your computer. You can change some settings in your computer or browser to unblock the websites.

Disable Microsoft defender firewall. In Chrome browser, in privacy and security settings, go to site settings and select settings of your choice. Reset the permissions of the website you want to visit in chrome browser.

  1. Tor Browser:

Tor is an open source network run entirely by volunteers, whose main purpose is to hide your identity and preserve online invisibility. It hides both user location and internet activity and allows you to bypass firewalls. Make sure you disable screen time limits before accessing the websites. Also you can’t use Tor browser on school or work computers without having download permissions.

  1. Use an IP address:

There are chances that your school or workplace network may block URLs instead of IP’s. In such scenarios you can unblock websites with the help of an IP address. In windows go to command prompt and enter ping and the name of the website to unblock. You will get the IP address of the site you want to unblock. Copy and paste the number on the search bar.

  1. Switch from HTTP to HTTPs:

Most sites allow both secured and unsecured access to websites. But it’s possible to trick a school or work network by accessing the proxy version of the site from unblocking a site. Software may block either of the versions and switching may get access to the site. Be cautious that URLs beginning with HTTP are less secure.

  1. Use the Google cache:

Google keeps local copies of websites for faster loading, this technique is called caching. There are chances, you may be blocked from the main site and not from the cached site. You can unblock site access by visiting the cached version. In chrome, go to Google and search for the website and on the right of the URL click downward arrow and click cached.

  1. Use a URL shortener:

There are many URL shortener tools available. I prefer Bitly as a URL shortener. You can try using the URL shortener to unblock the site access.

  1. Using chrome extensions as website unblockers:

There are some browser extensions that allow you to bypass the web restrictions automatically. You can visit chrome store for extensions and search for proxy server or proxy server VPN and add the extension to chrome browser and click on the extension icon to start using it.

  1. Use a Different DNS:

Some websites are banned in some locations. Changing the DNS settings from your computer ISP to something different helps unblock the access to the site. In the task bar, right click on network icon, open network and sharing, double click on your network and there change the DNS under IPv4.

Is it legal to unblock websites?

It depends on the country and the Act the workplace follows. In China and Russia countries accessing websites that are blocked is treated as Illegal. On the other hand, if you are using a school computer and trying to unblock websites that have been blocked is considered as Illegal, if the school falls under Children’s Internet Protection Act. In the workplace violating the workplace policies may lead you to trouble. Think twice before you take a step.

Stay protected while using Unblock It

Unblocking a website is less important than your online security and privacy. Here are the tips:

  •  Use reputable proxy servers for unblocking.
  • Use HTTPs whenever possible, As it protects data and privacy.
  • Stay cautious before entering your personal details or credentials on unknown sites.
  • Use a strong password to prevent unauthorized access.

Summary

In the ocean of digital space via the Internet, everyone wishes for an uninterrupted access to information. You can regain visibility from unblocked sites by using VPN, Proxy servers, DNS servers, extensions and browsers. Prioritize your online security before trying to explore these methods.
