solar-powered-christmas-lights

Al Gore, Barack Obama and now, there’s you. Trying to save the planet isn’t always an easy job, but somebody’s gotta do it. Well, these Christmas lights actually are pretty easy.

The solar panels do all of the work. All you have to do is hang the lights and enjoy. Not only do you get to save a butt load of money on your electricity bill, but you get to save the planet at the same time. It’s really win-win. Plus… hello? Bragging rights!

Happy Labor Day

labor-day

While you sit around, drinking a few brews and just all-around chilling out, I’ll be here, posting a few awesome posts, albeit on a shortened schedule, for you all to enjoy on your Labor Day. Hope you’re enjoying your day off!

From all two of us over here at Gearfuse (including the dickish French one), Happy Labor Day, GEARheads!

Happy Birthday, America!

How important is Independence Day, you ask? Well, it’s the one day of the year where this guy’s priorities are slightly altered. Okay, okay, and George Lucas’s birthday makes two. So shoot the guy, why don’t you.

Have a great holiday weekend and drive safe, fellow GEARheads.

A LEGO Star Wars Nativity Scene

Merry Christmas! What? It’s not Christmas yet? Forgive me, I’m Jewish. Here’s a nativity scene done with Star Wars LEGOs that brightened my day. Luke and Leia are collectively baby Jesus and even the infamous IG-88 makes an appearance. The creator of this nativity scene, Larry Lars, advises that anyone trying make their own should “find balance” between the traditional scene and Star Wars, itself.

Renewable Energy Revolving Door: Siphon Power From Holiday Tramplers

At Gearfuse, we’re all about world firsts. World’s first person to not shit after drinking a gallon of prune juice or world’s first ninja dog are the kinds of world firsts we’re used to seeing. How about the world’s first energy generating revolving door?

That’s the idea behind this revolving door built by Boon Edam. It harvests the kinetic energy of a crowd of people passing through a door. This simple action is expected to generate around 4600 KWH of energy each year, which is plenty of energy considering the source. Stick one of these doors in a Walmart during the Christmas season and you’ll generate enough energy to power the entire city of Los Angeles.

To Microsoft, You’re Either Hispanic Or Not

Microsoft has exhibited the great American trait of racism with its latest consumer survey which claims that Hispanic people are “more concerned than the general population” with home entertainment products this holiday season. Clearly differentiating between Hispanics and the general population, Microsoft’s latest survey’s numbers claim that 89 percent of Hispanics versus 64 percent of the general population want a holiday gift that “brings their family together.”

In Microsoft’s eyes, you’re either Hispanic or everything else. I don’t know what’s worse, Microsoft’s racial profiling or the fact that I used Viva PiƱata as the picture for this post.

Paper Turkey For Vegan’s Giving Thanks

Even if you’re a vegan and you keep clear of any consumables that at one time were living, breathing creatures, that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the great American holiday that is Thanksgiving.

Does the sight of a stuffed and beheaded turkey on your table disturb you? Then decorate your Thanksgiving dinner table with a papercraft turkey. It’s fun because, much like a real turkey, you get to prepare it yourself. What makes it better is you don’t have to deal with pulling out different body parts from the turkey’s rectum. It’s all paper for you vegans. Well, it’s either that or a tofu shaped turkey.

Chinese Lion Made From LEGOs

Nelson Yrizarry is pretty decent at his LEGO crafting. This Chinese Lion, typically found at Chinese New Year celebrations worldwide, is constructed from an assload of LEGOs and features intricate details. Maybe if we team Nelson up with that dude who built his own submarine, they’ll make one out of LEGOs that works. I wonder if it’s ever been attempted before…
