Want A Killzone 2 Demo Code? Just Ask Sony

killzone2_screenshot_13

Apparently, a lot of people got pissed off about Sony’s little pay-to-play scheme that involved pre-ordering Killzone 2 in order to receive a code for the demo. Yes, the very same codes we gave out the other week. Sony is now trying to save face by offering up a “limited number of downloads” of the demo. The catch is, you’ll have to fire up Playstation Home (ugh) and look for a guy dressed up as a Helghast soldier. Ask him for a code and ye shall receive. This is US-only and the Helghast guy can be found anytime tonight after 9pm EST. Good luck!

The Google GDrive Is Most Certainly Real

gdrive-entry-in-google-pack-strings-file

My friends, do you see this image of code? This is code from a JavaScript file included in Google Pack, a suite of Google Apps you can download in one shot. Buried inside the code is a snippet on the oft-rumored GDrive. In case you haven’t heard, GDrive is Google’s way of having you back up all your data to their servers so you can access it from any location, from any device. Quite ambitious, wouldn’t you agree?

Either way, this code tells us that the GDrive is indeed coming, but unfortunately, no date has been set. Will you use Google’s GDrive? Do you think this blurs the line between private data and public data?

Contest: Win Killzone 2 Beta Codes

See these? These are official Killzone 2 beta invite codes for the Playstation 3. So if you love first-person shooters and own a PS3, the game you’ve been waiting years to play is finally available to you, our loyal Gearfuse reader.

We have two invite codes to give away. All you need to do to get one is just leave a comment on this post describing your love for Killzone 2 and why you think it’s going to kick Halo 3 and other shooters right in the ass. Got it? Cool.

So leave a comment with the above info in mind between now and January 30th. We’ll pick two winners at random but you must comment with a valid email address, first name and valid Playstation Network gamertag. Why do we need this info? We want to make sure we’re giving these invites to true PS3 gamers who want to play Killzone 2 and not just scalp these on eBay.

Also to keep in mind: The beta does not begin until February 5th according to our source, so no need to worry. However, if Sony changes this date to an earlier time, we will post an update and give you 24 hours notice to enter. After that 24 hours, we’ll close the contest and give the invite codes out to ensure you can logon to the beta as soon as possible.

So what are you waiting for? This is fucking KZ2, baby. Leave your gamertag and we’ll be sure to add you to our friends list. Mine is “fusioned” in case you’re wanting to play some Resistance 2 in the meantime.

Any questions or comments can be directed to vince AT gearfuse DOT com. Good luck!

Colorful Fun With Meggy Jr RGB

The name is a bit odd, I have to admit, but this looks like one fun toy for the DIY enthusiast out there. It’s called the Meggy Jr RGB and it’s a programmable handheld console that features an 8×8 LED matrix made up of wonderful colored lights. It uses an ATMega168 microcontroller, similar to that of the Arduino. In fact, you can use Arduino code to program the Meggy Jr. With six buttons available, you could end up making a game or an audio interface with this thing.

Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories has a whole write up on it and how it can be used. It’ll be available next week.

Unlock Your T-Mobile G1 With Ease

Here is how I unlocked my G1 Android phone in 10 mins check here how to unlock it. worked fine for me http://www.unlock-tmobileg1.com

The hacker community has a true passion for unlocking cellphones and I whole-heartedly support it. It was only a matter of time before someone figured out how to unlock the G1 and who would have guessed that i’d be the easiest unlock on this side of the Atlantic. A site called Unlock-TmobileG1.com is offering up unlock codes for a mere $22.95. You send them your IMEI number, they email you back with a code and voila, you can unlock your G1.

Be warned, though. Early reports show that none of the Google services such as Gmail work on other networks such as AT&T’s.

Mathematical Butterflies

Those of you skilled in ActionScript or Processing might want to give this formula a try. Designed by Clifford Pickover, the mathematical formula will generate butterflies of all shapes and sizes. I bet by using an Arduino to generate objects and using Processing to render the output, you could end up with some beautiful patterns and shapes.

Oh, but the math! Here we are: p = ecos(?) – 2 cos(4 ?) + sin5(?/12)

Introducing: Google Chrome

Tomorrow, Google will be launching the beta version of Google Chrome in more than 100 countries. Chrome is it’s new browser and while it may seem like it’s aimed at Internet Explorer or Firefox, Google is really targeting Windows. Google wants Chrome to be nothing short of a full on desktop operating system that could give Windows a run for its money. But, what about Midori?

Google is releasing the beta for Windows to kick start a broader discussion and hear from users as soon as possible. It is also hard at work whipping up versions for Mac OS X and Linux, too. When the final project is all set and ready, Google will be making Chrome’s source code publicly available rendering endless expansive possibilities. Look for its release first thing tomorrow.

OpenStomp Open Source Guitar Pedal

There are plenty of software-based guitar solutions for guitarists but how many of them are open source? Very little, to be quite frank. Enter OpenStomp, an open source FX pedal solution for developers and players. The model above, the Coyote-1, can hook up to Windows so parameters can be edited on the fly. Sounds a lot like a MIDI-based solution that users can dive further into.

It may be open source but it still can’t turn you into Eddie Van Halen if you just plain suck. Remember, practice makes mediocre.
