Tech-inspired Sculptures That Come To Life

Creating artistic tech-inspired sculptures with nothing more than recycled goods and other garbage is a popular form of art these days. Like the City Foundry Bots or those mini-motorcycles made of old watch parts, these sculptures are made in a similar way but take it to the next level: they’re animated. We aren’t sure what mechanical artist Nemo Gould is ...

Celebrity Money

I can’t read French but I’m sure our publisher Steve Rufer would be more than happy to translate. All I can gather is that someone took pictures of movie stars and merged them with money. This is a pretty sweet but where’s the Mel Gibson photo with the $1 bill?

Banksy Gets Hit By Hurricane Gustav

Internationally acclaimed graffiti artist Banksy recently visited New Orleans to make some street art. When Hurricane Gustav hit the city last week, at least one of Banksy’s pieces was buried by the floodwaters. We’ll have to wait for the water to recede to see whether or not the artwork was damaged in the storm. At least one of Banksy’s other ...

Poppin’ LEGO Bottles

Designed by one Mariann Asanuma, this LEGO champagne bottle is exquisite and features great detail to the neck of the bottle. I have to say, I’m more fond of the brand of champagne she chose. This is probably the first case of selling of a tattoo while still on the owner’s body. Tim Steiner sold the ...

Mathematical Butterflies

Those of you skilled in ActionScript or Processing might want to give this formula a try. Designed by Clifford Pickover, the mathematical formula will generate butterflies of all shapes and sizes. I bet by using an Arduino to generate objects and using Processing to render the output, you could end up with some beautiful patterns and shapes. Oh, but the ...

Hyperlink: Cursors Through Art

The product of artist Ben Fino-Radin, “Hyperlink” is a four-piece series of needlepoint yarn sculptures that feature the ever-prominent desktop cursor. These are huge works of art too, meaning that Ben most likely spent hours looking at a pixelated hand in Photoshop for hours on end. It’s from 2006 but old things can be good too, you know.
