Splendid Anachronisms: Utopian School Uniforms

Somewhere in America circa 1905, these schoolboys were dressed for their class picture in foil uniforms. Was it some kind of experiment in hygenic attire? Costumes for a radium-age science fiction recitation? I’m reminded that 1905 saw the publication of H. G. Wells’ A Modern Utopia; maybe these were the avant-garde of an abortive educational project based on Wells’ work. Or perhaps�just perhaps�these boys were visitors from a future that not even we have reached?
