The 2023 World Cup Pegasus: What to Expect

The Pegasus World Cup was founded in 2017 as part of 1/ST’s initiative to modernize and revitalize the racing industry for a new generation of fans. It has since become a highly valuable venture for those involved in the horseracing business.

The Pegasus World Cup Championship Invitational Stakes, a Grade 1 race, is valued at $3 million, while the Pegasus World Cup Championship Turf Invitational Stakes is worth $1 million. These two events are a part of the 2023 Pegasus World Cup presented by Baccarat.

These races will be hosted at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Florida, on January 28. What follows will give you a better picture of what to anticipate from this annual racing event.

A Strong Lineup of Contenders

The main event falls on Saturday, and if you take the time to get to know each horse, you’ll better understand the competition. There are some new faces, as well as some old favorites, on this list.

One to note is Cody’s Wish. He has raced successfully at numerous significant tracks, including Churchill Downs, Keeneland, Saratoga, Belmont Park, and Tampa Bay Downs. Taiba will also be on the field. Bruce C. Ryan of Kentucky bred him, and Bob Baffert prepared him to race for Zedan Racing Stables, Inc. He raced at a few tracks: Churchill Downs, Keeneland, Monmouth Park, and Parx Racing.

We also expect to see White Abarrio, a 3-year-old horse who has raced in 2021 and 2022 and is ready to participate in 2023 events. He raced at and won several tracks, including Churchill Downs, Monmouth Park, Gulfstream Park, Parx Racing, and Thistledown.

Another noteworthy competitor is Cyberknife, the stakes winner for the 2022 Matt Winn (G3),  2022 Haskell Stakes (G1), and the 2022 Arkansas Derby (G1). He’s continuing his forward training in preparation for his final race, the Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1), on January 28 at Gulfstream Park.

There are still seats available for the Pegasus World Cup.  Despite the short length of the races (often two minutes or less), racegoers at the Pegasus World Cup will have a great time partaking in the many activities available at the venue.

The most affordable horse racing tickets will be available right before the track. These could be general admission tickets for roughly $20, depending on the venue. Costs for middle seats might reach $30. At the higher levels, you’ll have a wide variety of premium features to pick from. These first-class seats at the horse races can cost anywhere from $100 to $400.

If you cannot attend in person, don’t worry; both the Pegasus World Cup and the Pegasus World Cup Turf is going to be broadcast live on NBC from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. TVG’s Gulfstream Park racing season coverage includes broadcasts of every other race held at the track.
