I might attest to being quite the hardcore geek, but never have I taken up a project like this and I doubt I ever will. This group of charitable gamers plans to play every single Mario-inspired video game, including Galaxy and 64, in their entirety. In fact, they even plan on playing Galaxy all the way through with Luigi as well.
The whole marathon is being broadcast live on UStream. You can watch right from this post if you desire, but I recommend checking out the site to see what these dudes have accomplished.
The same group of guys also held separate Zelda and Mario marathons in 2008. These guys are out of their minds. We bow to you.
