Gamestop Opening Deus Ex Games, Taking Out Free Game Code

As if Gamestop didn’t already have a shady reputation among consumers, a “leaked” memo has added fuel to the gamer-rage fire.

Remember how Square Enix has released Deus Ex? And remember how there’s supposed to be an OnLive code for a free game in the package? Oh… wait. If you bought your game from Gamestop, you probably didn’t know that, since they’ve been instructed to open the box and throw away that code.

The information comes from a memo sent by a Field Operations Manager for Gamestop, instructing all employees to:

Please immediately remove and discard the On Live coupon from all Regular PC versions of Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Our desire is not to have this coupon go to any customers after this announcement.

Seriously, Gamestop? Even if OnLive is your competition for online game content, opening a game and then selling it as “new” is just bad form.
