Following the impact of Hurricane Sandy, MoMA PS1 set up a challenge for designers to come up with a new method of rebuilding that would help to protect the area from future hurricane impact. Sorg Architects answered that request with quite an innovative solution!
The Water Dyke concept that Sorg Architects put together utilizes balloons that are inflated by surges from the storm and once inflated they hold back storm waters. The idea is quite ingenious actually, utilizing the storm against itself and in theory it works. Although it is currently only a concept, the Water Dyke holds possibility for future protection against storm damage.
