Stay Focused on the Road

Reduce distractions within the car, such as changing radio stations or CDs, cell phones, eating or taking a hand off the wheel momentarily. A breeze of wind, pothole or a blown tire could send the vehicle into another lane, causing a serious accident. Always make sure your eyes are on the road and your hands are on the steering wheel! You can prevent a lot of accidents this way.

Don’t Speed Into Intersections

Count to three before entering a green light intersection. Look at both ways, and be sure that nobody tries to speed through a yellow light. When passing semis, exercise caution. Truck drivers have a big blind spot on their right side, so be particularly careful when driving alongside an18-wheeler. If you can’t see the side mirrors of the truck, then the truck driver can’t see you. It’s like taking a group picture: if you can’t see the camera lens, the camera can’t see you. Keep this basic principle in mind while you’re driving.

Pull Into Traffic With Patience

Come to a stop, look around you, and listen to what’s going on. Be aware of blind spots including those in rearview mirrors and pillars behind windshields or road signs behind them. Also, look at both directions at least twice before proceeding when at an intersection making a right-hand turn. Vehicles can very quickly appear nearly out of nowhere, so be careful when pulling into a busy intersection. One wrong move for one second and you can slam into another vehicle on the road.

Keep An Eye Out For Children

Children and animals are accustomed to suddenly popping out between parked cars and into roads. If you drive in a residential neighborhood with children in attendance, watch carefully and slow down. Children can be unpredictable when it comes to roads so keep all eyes on them. Always drive super slowly when you’re passing through a school district because these are areas with more children around.

Always Be Courteous To Other Drivers

No-one owns the roads, so treat others with respect and report to authorities any suspicious driving activity. If you treat other drivers fairly, they will give you the same respect!
