This past Saturday, Ron Garan decided that he wanted to watch the Perseid meteor shower, which usually peaks around this time of year. However, he wasn’t out on his lawn with a blanket and some binoculars. No, Ron is a NASA astronaut, and he got to watch the meteor shower from the International Space Station.
Even more incredible is that he actually managed to snap a photo of a meteor as it was entering the Earth’s atmosphere. You can even see a small gold portion of one of the space station’s solar arrays on the right side of the photo.
Ron isn’t new to space photography, and regularly updates his Twitpic gallery with new photos. He returns to Earth on September 8th, aboard a Russian craft.
