It’s been almost 50 years since gaming reached mainstream popularity back in the 1970s. Since then, Video game collectors have been willing to spend a lot of money on rare titles, and you’d be surprised to see just how much one can sell for.

1. Nintendo World Championships (Gold Cartridge)

Release Date: 1990
Platform: Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)

Nintendo organized a global video game tournament in 1990 called the Nintendo World Championships and manufactured custom NES cartridges for the game. Twenty-six special ones were coloured gold and are considered quite rare.

2. Gamma Attack

Release Date: 1983
Platform: Atari 2600

This game is quite valuable because only one is known to have ever been made.

3. Stadium Events

Estimated Value: $41,977
Release Date: 1986
Platform: Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)

Only 200 copies of Stadium Events were created before it was rebranded, making it a valuable title.

4. Birthday Mania

Estimated Value: $35,000
Release Date: 1984
Platform: Atari 2600

This game was made-to-order, meaning you’d give them the details of the birthday person and they would put them in the game – making it incredibly unique.

5. Air Raid

Estimated Value: $33,433.30
Release Date: 1982
Platform: Atari 2600

Only 12 copies of Air Raid exist, making it one of the rarest Atari titles ever made.

6. Nintendo Campus Challenge 1991

Nintendo held national college video game tournaments throughout North America, where Nintendo Campus Challenge 1991 was played. Apparently, only one has survived the event, and it’s been valued for quite a bit of money.

7. Blockbuster World Championships II

Release Date: 1995
Platform: Sega Mega Drive

Sega also had a gaming competition where they teamed up with Blockbuster to create Blockbuster World Championships II. There are only about two to three known copies out there today.

8. Red Sea Crossing

Platform: Atari 2600

While 100 copies of this title exist, only two have surfaced and they sold for a lot of money.

9. Atlantis II

Release Date: 1982
Platform: Atari 2600

If players took a photo of the screen after beating Atlantis, they were mailed an exclusive copy of Atlantis II, making this an incredibly rare and unique game.

10. Tetris (Sega Genesis Version)

Platform: Sega Genesis

Due to licencing issues, Sega had to cancel the launch of Tetris on the Sega Genesis (or Mega Drive as it is called outside of North America) and destroy the copies that had been produced. Some managed to survive, though, and one copy signed by creator Alexey Pajitnov managed to sell for nearly 1 million dollars.
