5 Trends in The Gaming Industry to Watch Out For in 2020 and Beyond

Online gaming is a billion-dollar industry and has shown no signs of stagnancy so far in 2019. The revenue generated by the gaming industry in 2018 stood at $137.9 billion, which was $70.6 billion in the year 2012.

At present, mobile gaming is taking the world by storm, followed by console gaming at approximately half of its revenue. Industry experts predict that we will get to see many more innovations in 2020.Let’s look at some big things that are predicted to occur in the world of gaming, according to experts:

1. Hologram

This technology has been in existence for quite a few years now. However,it is yet to make its way into the gaming world. It ensures to provide an immersive, lifelike experience. With 3D glasses on, holograms are expected to start presenting gamers with what they call a truly immersive experience.

2. Online Games

The Internet is widely as well as easily available to everyone today. People like to play mobile games, such as Call of Duty, PUBG,and Minecraft that require seamless internet connectivity. The number of people that prefer playing online games, e.g. blackjack – the biggest card game, etc. is still big.The online gaming industry seeks growth not just in terms of graphics but the overall experience.

3. Virtual Reality

This technology is already available to gamers but is expected to find stratospheric heights in the year 2020. While virtual reality (VR) possesses limitless potential, VR headsets available today don’t have the graphics capabilities like other screens, such as gaming consoles and PCs offer.

Today, these platforms are way ahead of the VR devices in terms of graphics quality, but VR is expected to catch up by2020, owing to its capabilities to give gamers a truly immersive experience.

4. Augmented Reality

If we had realized anything considering a huge wave of Pokémon Go, then it was gamers screaming out loud for an immersive mobile gaming experience. Mobile gaming is continuing to drive AR forward,Pokémon Go was just a tiny bit of what is yet to come.

With the graphics of AR improving continuously, more and more mobile games are expected to be released in the coming years. Many of these mobile apps will appeal to different niche markets and not just games that appeal to everyone.

5. Not Just Big Studios

Many of us keep our eyes glued to big gaming studios, waiting for their releases. However, plenty of independent developers also release their mobile games almost every week. These games might not be as spectacular as what studios like Ubisoft and Rockstar Games offer, but many of their releases are very creative.

When we look into the future for possibilities, there is no defined number as to what technologies the gaming industry will incorporate. We can certainly expect the future of PC, mobile, and online gaming to be bright, considering the seamless experience we are getting in 2019.
