Turn Your iPhone Into A Portable Disk

I love my iPhone 3G. I really do. I also loved my short-lived iPod Touch but that’s another story for another day. Anyway, one of the things I hate about the iPhone is how you can’t drag and drop files on to the device for storage. All that becomes fixed with iPhoneDisk and a filesystem appropriately titled MacFUSE. When you connect your iPhone to your Mac, it’ll appear like any other storage device. You’ll be able to drag-and-drop at your... Continue reading

Make Your Own Wii Games With MoteDaemon

Here’s a bitchin’ application for Adobe Flash/Flex developers. It’s called MoteDaemon and it’s kind of like Matt Damon except it allows you to create Wiimote-controlled applications for OS X. Now, you too can create your very own sub par Nintendo Wii games for your Mac. To make your experience of making lousy games for old people and kids even easier, MoteDaemon comes with a test-drive application called WiiCockpit. Bill Byrne of MAKE swears that with one look at WiiCockpit’s code,... Continue reading

Free and Legal Mac Software

I have to hand it to Macheist for really upping the ante this year. Normally, they’ll give away 10 or so solid applications for OS X in a bundle for around $20 to $50. This holiday season, you won’t be paying jack shit. Macheist has a Mac Giving Tree that gives out applications as presents. A few are currently available, with more on Christmas Day. If you’re a Macintosh owner, I suggest heading over and getting on top of that.... Continue reading

Turn Your iPhone/iPod Touch Into A MIDI Controller

The best things in life are free, no question about it. But even if it wasn’t free, I’d most likely buy iTouchMidi, a program for both OS X and Windows that will receive MIDI signals from your iPhone or iPod Touch via WiFi. Pretty insane right? Check out what this guy did with two iPod Touches and iTouchMidi software. He uses the touchscreens mounted to his guitar to control Ableton Live and pull off some Brian Eno-type shit. I’d keep... Prototype Macbook Air Surfaces On eBay

A MacRumors forum member purchased a used Macbook Air off eBay “as-is” and ended up getting a prototype model of the Macbook Air. The bottom is a black material and there’s no “Macbook Air” written on the screen’s bezel. It also features an interim build of Mac OS X 10.5. The buyer found out that the MBA was produced around May 2007, a whole six months before the Macbook Air’s debut. Wild stuff. I’m not sure if I’d want to... Continue reading

OpenClip: Copy, Paste On Your iPhone

For all the iPhone owners out there, I don’t know how you can live without copy and paste functionality. Lucky for you, there’s OpenClip: A non-profit, open source implementation of copy and paste for the iPhone, OpenClip uses an area of the filesystem to enable participating apps to share the contents of a common clipboard. A small number of apps have pledged support, and until Apple has its own version this may come in handy from time to time. And... Continue reading

Apple has officially confirmed that Mac OS X Leopard will hit store shelves on Friday, October 26th starting at 6pm. Steve Jobs is calling it “the best upgrade we have ever released” and with new features like the redesigned 3D Dock with Stacks, Time Machine, Spaces, Quick Look as well as updated Finder, Mail, and iChat– he just might be right. Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard will retail for $129 for a single user license and $199 for a “family... Continue reading
