The so-called ‘hot hatch’ is one of the world’s most iconic (and underrated) automotive designs, and one that first came to the attention of consumers back in 1973 with the humble Simca 1100TI. The hot hatch market has evolved considerably in the three decades since, with today’s incarnations renowned as bring high-performance models framed within a three of five door hatchback design. Peugeot is a brand that remains synonymous with this marketplace, although until recently it has lost ground to some of its rivals.

Introducing the New Peugeot 308 GTi 250

The French firms’ new 308 GTI 250 is looking to make an explosive entrance into the market, with the GTi badge making its long-awaited return to the family hatchback sector since 2000. While Peugeot have been active in the hot hatch scene since this date, the 208 GTi launched in 2013 was not aimed at families and despite enjoying strong sales failed to wow the marketplace. It is hoped that the new 308 will build on this, and the brand has left no stone unturned to ensure that this is the case.

So what should you expect from the new Peugeot 308 GTi? Firstly, it likely to sport a lower back and a distinctly sportier look, while the inclusion of huge, 19-inch alloy wheels create an immediate sense of grandeur. Consumers can also select the iconic, optional coupe red and black paintwork that is synonymous with the brand, creating a striking exterior and an instantly recognizable brand trademark. Far from being hard to miss, the new 308 GTi will make a visual impact that will give it an initial edge in the market.

What else is new with the 308 GTi?

The new Peugeot also features the exciting i-Cockpit, which adds a futuristic dimension to driving and blends well within the vehicle’s dashboard. With a large 9.7-inch touchscreen, it will also give drivers instant access to a host of features from the Sat-Nav to an on-board entertainment system. In terms of performance, the new 308 can achieve 0-62 mph in just 6.0 seconds, while it can also cover 1 km from a standing start in approximately 25.3 seconds.

Available as new from reputable dealers such as Robins and Day, Peugeot’s new 308 GTi is undoubtedly a force of nature to be reckoned with. It has also announced the brand’s return to the hot hatch market with a bang, and perhaps breathed life into an often underrated automotive sector.
