Earth Sets Its Space Lasers to Kill

Okay, so I’m guilty of sensationalism, so shoot me… in the face… with a plasma gun! The ESO’s (European Southern Observatory) Paranal Observatory, which acts as home for the VLT (Very Large Telescope). This photo captures the VLT’s Laser Guide Star facility in action.

The laser beam is part of the VLT’s adaptive optics system, which corrects for distortions caused by Earth’s atmosphere so the land-based optics system can get clear shots of the cosmos. In this case, the color of the laser is precisely tuned to excite a band of sodium atoms found in an upper layer of the atmosphere some 56 miles up.

So there you have it. The One World Government is disguising our anti-unidentified aircraft weaponry as telescopes. Eat our dust ET. If all else fails, we have a new way to distract cats for hours.
