Are you ready to embark on the adventure of a lifetime? If so, then congratulations, you’ve made the right decision, and you will certainly have something to write home about. Then again, what if you had something more to send home? What if you had the ability to send a video of your adventure from your own point of view? There was a time when this would have been considered a physical impossibility due to the weight of the cameras on the market, but things have changed considerably. For example, the Panasonic wearable camera has changed adventure sports photography considerably and with that being the case, cameras are much more commonplace. Why? Mostly because they are lightweight and are now able to withstand much more abuse than their predecessors. For example, the average camera is both waterproof, and features some type of vibration reduction for bumpy rides, among other things. As you can see, there are plenty of reasons to carry one of these cameras, though they are just one of the gadgets you need to have in your bag when you choose to embark on an adventure. Let’s take a look at a few must-have items, and soon enough, you’ll be ready to take your own high tech adventure, on the grid or off.
Essential #1: The Camera
We discussed the wearable camera in the previous paragraph, but let’s bring it up one more time. Panasonic makes a number of great cameras all intended for off the grid performance. Many of these are waterproof and can even survive an impact or seven without taking on any serious damage. In addition to that, most cameras can utilize extended memory, meaning you won’t have to worry about running out of space any time soon. Your adventures should be captured and they should be remembered for many years to come, either because no one will believe you otherwise, or you want to show others the experience.
Essential #2: Charging Equipment
You can’t have your camera or any of your other precious electronics without the proper charging equipment. This includes USB cables, wall adapters, and of course, a battery charger for your camera. Yes, you are going to run out of juice eventually, and that means you are going to need a couple of backup batteries so the adventure can continue. Who knows what you might miss if you’re waiting for long intervals on battery recharges? On that note, an article on Crooked Brains states that the PluGo is without a doubt one of the most important items you can have with you on one of these excursions as it is capable of converting to international standards.
Essential #3: External Storage
With a camera, you’re going to load up plenty of storage devices with video, and you’ll need a place to put it all. Make sure you pack external hard drives, flash drives, and any other device you’d like to use as your storage backup. It won’t be long before you realize just why you needed them.
Essential #4: Weather Tracking Device
You never know when the weather might turn nasty, and that means you need some type of weather tracking device. The WEZR is a smart device capable of tracking the weather using your smartphone. There are lots of local stations available, all of which will easily help you to track the changing weather, and the WEZR will help you to tap into them. All you need to do, is plug the device into your smartphone, and you’ll be able to attach it directly to any of your clothing items. This includes your jacket, backpack, ski pole, anything. To make it even better, it is absolutely compatible with nearly anything including Apple iOS and Android devices. If you are heading out into the wild, then this is one device that you absolutely, positively must take with you.
These are four of the most important devices that you must take with you on your trip into the wild, but as you can imagine, there are many more. It is critical for you to ask yourself what you need and what will be best for your trip. Obviously every trip is different and will require different types of equipment, and you will need to be the judge of that. There are lots of great gadgets on the market that will fill all sorts of different needs. Take a look online, see what is available, and remember the most important thing of all: you don’t have to go alone anymore. No matter what type of trip you are going on, and no matter how isolated you are going to be, technology has your back, and will keep you connected in more ways than one.
