Seville making a shift to LED traffic lights

From what seems to be in direct relation with the announcement by Taiwan with the same goal, the city of Seville, Spain is planning a complete overhaul of their traffic light system by transferring to LED-based bulbs, removing the less eco-friendly and worse performing halogen and incandescent lights currently in service.

By the time Seville has all of their 22,170 new lamps up and running, they expect to see a energy consumption which is 85% less than their pre-LED level. Now the only question is, will Rossini rise from the dead and write an opera for the lights? Or will that make the barbers jealous? — Andrew Dobrow
