Playster Review: Streaming App and Tablet

Playster

If you love subscription-based entertainment services and have always wondered if there’s a hack to get movies, music, books and games under one roof, then you’ll want to give Playster a try.

The latest contender in the world of online streaming, Playster offers users access to unlimited entertainment in all its forms.

Whether you download the app or log in through your browser, you’ll be granted access to Playster’s full selection of books, audiobooks, music, movies and games for $24.95/month.

What’s really great about it is that it cuts out the need to remember a whole bunch of logins and it also eliminates the annoyance of having to switch from service to service every time you want to check out something new. Bored of reading and ready to listen to some music instead? No problem! Pick it from the menu and you’re ready to go.

Right now, Playster’s best selection is definitely in its books category, which has all kinds of e-books and is regularly updated with hot audiobook releases as soon as they hit the market. For just $9.95/month (which is seriously reasonable and the lowest price we’ve seen anywhere for books and audiobooks), you can read and listen to as many as you want. Bonus: You can enjoy everything  both on- and offline, which is awesome news for your morning commute, the gym and travels abroad.

What’s more, they’ve just expanded their catalog to include the Big Five publishers and you’ll be able to find titles from Simon & Schuster, Macmillan, HarperCollins, Recorded Books, Tantor and Highbridge.

Although the search capabilities could be improved, we got a sneak peak of the revamped app and we’re seriously impressed. It will include everything from author bios to curated playlists and the feature we’re most excited about is mood-based sorting. This is a fairly common function when it comes to movies and music, but we’ve never seen anything like it applied to books. Just pick the mood you’re in and you’ll be presented with a reading list that perfectly matches how you’re feeling. Look for that exciting update in early summer!

One more perk worth mentioning is the fact that Playster will send you an Android tablet and HD headphones, which are yours to keep, if you sign up for 12 months of their service. It might not replace your current tablet, but it’s really hard to complain about having a secondary one to leave at work, throw in your bag or gift to your kids. Allowing up to five simultaneous logins on any device, Playster lets the whole family (or you and all of your roommates) enjoy entertainment at the same time without having to fight over who gets to pick first.

If you’re curious about Playster, they’re currently offering a free 30-day trial, so you can try it out for yourself by clicking here.
