Gas Masks Made Out of Rare and Retro Sneakers

LA-based artist Gary Lockwood created these sneaker gas masks and it has NOTHING TO DO WITH EBOLA. Thank the sweet lord.

But why waste such beautiful examples of sneaker design, and why gas masks?

mask making is an ancient art form and I look to link our modern times to this ancient art.’ the artist describes ‘the gas mask is the mask of our times, it represents atrocities at war, civil unrest, environmental damnation and works both as a symbol of fear and of protection.

Dude… that’s probably the best reasoning behind a design project that I’ve heard in years.

It’s usually something so abstract that it takes a degree in philosophy to understand. I like you, Gary.
