Explanations of Life According to 10 Of Our Favorite Video Games

Video games can be pretty twisted. They certainly don’t always have it together but whether they do or not, they generally always have at least one one-liner that makes for a good explanation of life. Check out ten of our favorite “life” quotes according to video games.

1. Zork

“You are in a maze of twisty passages, all alike.”

Yes, we know that it’s an old school game but we still love Zork.

2. Half Life: Episode Two

“Prepare for unforeseen consequences.”

…because you should and because even if you don’t like the game, you have to admit that it’s one hell of a quote.

3. Portal

“…all the cake is gone. You don’t even care, do you?”

All the cake is ALWAYS gone, especially when you really wanted a piece. Plus, cake isn’t always just cake.

4. Portal 2

“All right, I’ve been thinking, when life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade! Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don’t want your damn lemons! What am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life’s manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I’m the man whose gonna burn your house down – with the lemons!”

At least once during your life you will be handed lemons and we’re really digging this approach to receiving said lemons.

5. Half-Life 2

“The right man in the wrong place can make all the difference in the world.”

Simple or not, it’s true.

6. Far Cry 2

“You can’t break a man the way you do a dog or a horse – the harder you beat a man, the taller he stands.”

Not that we agree with beating dogs, horses or men.

7. Bioshock

“A man chooses; a slave obeys.”

No list of our favorite video games would be complete without a mention of Bioshock.

8. Fallout 3

“War. War never changes.”

It doesn’t.

9. Deus Ex

“For it is the dawning of a new day.”

There will always be a chance to start over again…unless of course, there isn’t.

10. God of War III

“Hope is what makes us strong. It is why we are here. It is what we fight with when all else is lost.”

…because without hope, what else is there?
