Bad News — Your Cell Phone Doesn’t Really Cure Acne

We’ll never know what possessed two developers to create smartphone apps that claimed to cure acne. Was their app based on some sort of science? An ancient Chinese remedy? Nope. They claimed that they could cure your acne with flashing red and blue “light therapy”, which could be done right from your smartphone.

Well, I’ve got some bad news. The apps called “AcneApp” and “Acne Pwner” don’t really cure acne. Though, if you really believed that they could, you deserve to still be flashing red and blue lights at your face.

The FTC has fined the developers behind the apps, and both apps havebeenpulled from the Android Market as well as the Apple App Store. AcneApp was downloaded about 11,600 times, and was on sale for $1.99. “Acne Pwner” was $0.99 on the Android Market, and was downloaded around 3,300 times.
