The iPhone has finally become unlocked, sort of. The good people over at Hacktheiphone have figured out how to use Cingular SIM cards, regardless of model or service plan, with the iPhone. The whole thing seems very risky.
Using hacking skills on the iPhone’s IMEI, the feature that makes sure another companies service isn’t being used, could cause your iPhone service to have a serious meltdown. Though, if you do the hack correctly, you should be able to use the cheaper Cingular service. It’s also just a good exercise if you’re interested in GSM hacking. — Andrew Dobrow

I got the iphone 2 weeks ago and had my it manager try unlocking it. He eventually came back with the activation unlocked. I was still unable to use an international sim, this was until i put 2 of my managers on it and 1 of my accountants. Dont ask what an accountant has to do with hacking and IT but they did the job. I can now make calls using any sim card with no problems and have fallen in love with this phone. Does this mean we are the first to accomplish this? anyways just thought i’d ask. I ended up purchasing each of them an iphone which they have really enjoyed as we are the first, that we know of at least to be using this phone outside the US. we are definately the first in Africa at least. hi please tell the procces of unlocking the iphone for international carriers i have unlocked to be used with cingular sims but im in colombia so its still no use here if you can i would be very greatfull

hola andres la verdad ya no hay forma de desbloquearlo para una empresa colombiana la unica forma seria clonando la simcard que viene con el iphone y que alguien en comcel por ejemplo la manipule pero eso es casi imposible parece que nos va a tocar esperar

se puede desbloquear el iphone, pero la sim card de comcel no sirve. yo desbloqueé el teléfono, pero le sirve todo menos el servicio celular. el teléfono me sirve para wireless, y sincronizar contactos, música, etc.

The other option that can be easier is to use Turbo Sims. You can then use them on your next phone that needs unlocking. Might be worth looking at http://www.mobilecodez.com order to find the best unlocking solution.
