Super Mario Bros. Turns 25
It’s-ah me, the birthday boy! It’s hard to believe but today marks the 25th anniversary of the debut of Mario and the gang. The design of Mario, originally planned as a carpenter named Jumpman, can really be accredited to the graphical limitations of the time. He wore a hat, because realistic hair was difficult to portray with 8-bit graphics, a mustache to provide definition to his pixelated nose, and dungarees to make his arm movements more noticeable. In the original... Continue reading
Mario Made Luigi an Offer He Couldn’t Refuse
Not going to star in my games anymore under ah-me, Mario? You want your own fame and-ah fortune? You want to-ah split from the family business? We’ll-ah see about that. Don’t even try getting out of the game Luigi. Bad things might happen to you. Very bad things. If you want to see this design on a purchasable tee, head over to Threadless and vote! Link [via]
Super Mario Bros. Yoshi Tongue Scarf
Yoshi is so considerate. Look at him lovingly using his tongue to wrap around your neck (who knows where that neck has been!) This crocheted Yoshi scarf is lovingly honed by Etsy user ShadowsInTheNyte. Usually used to suck down apples (and in the new game, even your fellow teammates), Yoshi’s most valuable appendage comes in handy on even the most chilly of days. The weather is getting warmer now, so we might not have to bust this out until next... Continue reading
Yoshi Macbook Decal Desperately Wants To Eat Your Apple
You know how Yoshi loves his apples. So it’s no surprise that he couldn’t resist such a shiny fruit as the Apple logo itself. This Yoshi Macbook decal is available from LapTatt, and it’s a great way to build-up even more geek cred, if you care about that sort of thing. Link [via]
LEGO Yoshi
My only question is — when the hell did Jared from Subway start building LEGO sculptures? Pretty impressive work, even if Yoshi’s nose is large enough to swallow a medium sized planet. I’m surprised Jared isn’t being sucked in by its gravitational pull. Oh, that’s right, Jared has his own. It’s funny ‘cuz he’s FAT. Link [via]
Yoshi and Mario Wall Hanger
Made using an inkjet printer, sticker labels and a 1/4? foam board, the Mario Riding Yoshi wall hanging design wants to lick you to death, sort of like a sex-addicted prison-escapee, but now with more reptilian spice. Watch the mustache, I heard it can leave some rug burn. Link
Turning Japanese: Mario Gets the Jap Art Treatment
Just like The Vapors classic 1980 single “Turning Japanese,” I’m fairly confidant that Mario is, in fact, turning Japanese. I really think so. Created for Uberbook’s Designers Game Remix by Flickr user Xiaobaosg, this Japanese art-themed piece draws inspiration from Super Mario Bros and the Capcom game Monster Hunters. Featured in the print are Mario himself, Bowser and a much scarier looking Yoshi. Link [via]
Chinese beverage label with crazy Mario clone
If Mario gained double his body weight and if Yoshi grew horn-like ears, you’d have something like the logo on this Chinese beverage label. It’s just hilarious at what lengths companies will go to flee from copyright infringement, but still keep a recognizable symbol. Just look at Mario’s chubby cheeks and his fireman helmet. And poor Yoshi with those things on his head that are supposed to resemble ears, we suppose. What does a fake Mario and Yoshi have to... Continue reading
