Everyone Wants a Log: Cuddling Up With Slabs of Wood

log-pillow

These wooden log pillows are perfect for beavers, cuddling humans and cuddling beaver-human hybrids alike. The design of the pillow imitates stubs of the cottonwood tree chewed down by our wood-loving friend, the beaver. Even better, they totally go with your natural pillow motif.

The wooden graphics are physically knitted, rather than printed, giving each pillow a little custom touch. Each pillow retails at Etsy for $69 on sale, down from $82.

Poppin’ Wood

wood-music-speaker-dock-for-ipod

Anyone still pumping out Kid Cudi tracks from a traditional speaker setup is really missing out. With this iPod dock that’s shaped like a log, you and your homeboys will be poppin’ wood all night. Dancing and prancing will never feel more right. And to boot, it’s actually made from a real, honest-to-god log. Killer beats. Tree killer beats, that is.

Steampunk iPod

steampunk-ipodjpg

Touch? Touch is new school and us steampunk aficionados don’t like no stinkin’ touch! This old school iPod features the steampunking work of one Neal Bridgens. Adding wood, brass and copper to the device, he transformed Apple’s beloved music player into an ancient creation. It was created from scratch and if you have enough cash, Neal will whip one up for you in no time.

Amazon Kindling: Burn After Reading

amazonkindling

Perfect for those confidential notes that call for being destroyed right after being read. The Amazon Kindling was created using a laser cutter.

This reminds me of that famous holiday ditty:

Amazon Kindling on an open fire
Jeff Bezos nipping at your nose (but mostly your wallet)

DIY Pinball Table

diy_tabletoppinball2_ccjpg

Using some scrap wood he had lying around, Seamster set forth and built his very own pinball table. Complete with working paddles, it uses an old mouse tracking ball and has plenty of ramps and other bonuses, just like the arcade version of the game. It’s not an easy build but there’s an Instructable available should you have the courage to try to build your own.

The only thing missing are the bright lights and ability to tilt the machine.

Wood iPhone 3G Cases

wood_iphone_casejpg

These handmade cases for the iPhone 3G are really something. Clearly a lot of time and craftsmanship went into making each one and lucky for you, they’re up for sale on Etsy. At $85, it’s not a cheap case and don’t even think about keeping it in your pocket – it’s simply too large. This is more of a luxury case for when you’re at home or on vacation. Three to choose from, try to contain yourself.

Steampunk: Veritas Dovetail Gang Saw

variable_gangsaw1bjpg1

Leave it to Joel over at BBG to find the world’s most badass hand saw. It’s called the Veritas Dovetail Gang Saw and it costs a whopping $212. But you have to think about it for a minute and analyze the need for this saw. If vampires or zombies ever come after you, you’ll be prepared with three sharp blades, ready to slash through flesh at a moment’s notice. While some would argue the saw itself isn’t Steampunk enough, I’d beg to differ.

Apparently, you can also cut wood or something to that effect. Who would want to, though? It’s soooo beautiful.

Screw Chair: Probably More Comfortable Than A Bed of Nails

screwchair

The Screw Chair. It sounds like some sort of forbidden BDSM device. And it could probably be used as one, given the right people and setting. But, luckily, sado-masochism is not its derived purpose. Made of 3,726 drywall screws and a bunch of hastily stacked wooden blocks, the Screw Chair is made to be used as a generic place to rest your feet.

Thankfully, the designer had the right of mind to use the flat side of the screw as the actual sitting surface, which makes it just a tad bit more accessible, no? Check out some more pics after the jump. (more…)

Type Cube: Design Your Own Fonts

typecubes

I’m not quite sure what the Type Cube is supposed to be but from what I can gather, you can design your own fonts using cubes with painted shapes on them. Use black squares and quarter-leaves to spell out classic words like “BONER” and “TOOL.” Actually, Type Cubes look like a fun way to teach children about letters, design and spelling all in one session. Do you know who created Type Cube? Let us know in the comments.

Homeless Chateau

If you’re broke and squatting in an abandoned warehouse, you might as well make the best of it. Such is the mindset behind James Westwater’s “sustainable organic greenery domicile” better known as the Homeless Chateau. It has a small cooking and toilet area (gross), storage and a place to sleep – the essentials of any home. The caveat is that it’s essentially a big wooden crate with no windows. but there is a translucent polyurethane end to let in natural light.
