Geeky Garter Belts Lively Up Your Wedding

geeky-garter1

The garter belt is one of the key elements to a successful wedding reception, second only to a great geeky wedding cake. I remember a time when I was around 7 or 8 that I happened to be the dude that caught the garter and was forced to put it on some old woman. That was not my proudest moment.

I might have been a little more excited and perhaps less scarred for life if I had seen a garter belt such as one of these. It might have shielded my attention from the varicose veins in my near future. The Pac-Man or Stormtrooper Garter Belts are guaranteed to add some life to your budget wedding reception.

Gundam-Themed Wedding Takes Place at Life-Sized Gundam Statue

gundam-wedding

This lucky couple was chosen out of 500 applicants to have a special Gundam-themed wedding event at the Odaiba life-sized Gundam statue.

The images from wedding are both amusing and breath-taking. The sheer size of that thing. I still can’t get over it.

Two Shoes, Four Feet: Shoes Designed For the Father / Daugher Dance

danceshoes

It’s a common sight at weddings and large family gatherings. The men of the family often dance with one of the younger girls of the family, often times, their own daughter or granddaughter. The girl, being so short, must stand on the man’s feet to keep up with the dance. These Dance Shoes were designed for the classic father / daughter dance team.

The Dance Shoes do all the hard work of balancing and take the strain off the child. Also perfect for midgets!

First Zero-Gravity Wedding

zero-gravity-wedding

Leave it to New Yorkers to one up the rest of America. Noah Fulmore and Erin Finnegan dropped more than $16,000 on a wedding in a zero-G plane. A 90 minute ride full of dives and twists allowed the happy couple to say “I do” entirely upside down. Too cool.

“I Do” Laser Etched Wedding Ring

Here’s a wedding ring that’s out of the ordinary. A “Yes, I Do” sound wave is cut-out of the ring. No engraving your significant other’s favorite love poem on this ring. There’s no room for it. Designer Sakura Koshimizu uses lasers to cut out the shape of the waveform produced from your own “Yes I Do.”

Using some sound editing software, Sakura records your voice during the ceremony. The software will show the sound waves on the screen, which are then fed into a laser which cuts it out of the silver. She even makes earrings out of the cut-out sound waves. No wasted materials here, folks.

MMO’s Are Serious Business

In Japan, you apparently can be charged with illegal access of a computer and manipulating electronic data if found guilty of intentionally “killing” someone’s MMO character. Some guy divorced his online wife’s avatar in Maple Story and in her anger she killed his character. Now, she faces a prison sentence of up to five years or a fine of up to $5,000 dollars.

Yowch! I believe a few lessons can be learned here. Firstly, never marry in a video game. Virtual settings and life-long relationships don’t mesh. Secondly, don’t play Maple Story. It sucks.

Someone Call Lando, There’s A Party

It wouldn’t be Monday without the obligatory Star Wars post. This Star Wars themed wedding posted on Flickr has all the guests dressed in their favorite Star Wars characters. The groom as Admiral Ackbar is for some strange reason or another settling for some Corellian chick. Where are all the Mon Calamari women?

Complete with an At-At Walker based cake, this wedding had nearly everything. Holy moly, even Lobot made an appearence:

Mario Kart Wedding Cake Gone Galaxy

Yet another video game-based baked goody to fulfill our sweet tooth. This time around, Mario Kart is the inspiration for this succulent cake posted by Flickr user M.A.L. All the stars and the planet below the castle were inspired by Super Mario Galaxy for the Wii. Letthemeatcake.net were the ones responsible for this extravagant design and if they can do game cakes this elaborate, I’d really like to see more.

Tie the Knot in Space

A Japanese wedding planning company has teamed up with space transportation provider Rocketplane Kistler Japan. Using half-airplane, half-space shuttle transportation, they plan on hosting weddings aboard a one hour space flight that reach altitudes above 62 miles.

They’re charging a little over two million dollars for such an affair but are kind enough to include a photo and video album, original dress, wedding certificate, transportation to and from the launch site, a live broadcast of the ceremony to friends and family at a reception hall on the ground (talk about impersonal), four days of rehearsal as well as other ceremonial items and accommodations.  These services are supposed to be available sometime in 2011 and the company will already begin taking applications next month.
