Mark Zuckerberg’s Original FaceMash.com For Sale
Before there was Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg created its ancestral prototype FaceMash, built from his Harvard dorm room in one October night in 2003. Eventually FaceMash evolved into what is now known as Facebook, but FaceMash will always hold a piece of social networking history. Now, anyone with a barrel of cash to spare can purchase FaceMash.com for themselves. The URL is currently up for bid at Flippa. The current bid is $15,000, so this probably isn’t for the casual social... Continue reading
Last Pic Standing: One Site, One Image That Anyone Can Change
An image speaks a thousand words. That’s the premise that this website thrives on. LastPicStanding.com is a new breed of social interaction. Total silent anonymity. Well, except for your IP. But who identifies people by their IP anyway (shifty eyes). The site, at any one time, has one image. The catch is that anyone who visits can change that image to any other image they feel like uploading to the site, at least until the next guy comes and the... Continue reading
Google in Reverse: New Site Provides Google Results Starting From the Least Relevant Results
When I do a vanity Google search for my name, or Gearfuse, or whatever, it’s very rare that I can make it to the last page of results, the end of the internet, if you will. Inframutt, a new beta project, takes users into the very bowels of the interwebz, starting the search results with the least relevant results rather than the customary search which provides you with the ultimate in relevance. You really want to know who someone is?... Continue reading
The Human Body in HTML and PHP
You know, websites and the human body aren’t that different when it all comes down to it. We both have a head, we both have a body (some beefier than others) and we both have our spots we’d prefer to be hidden to the general public. You can argue that making a baby is a much more entertaining activity, but when it all comes down to it, web creation and baby making aren’t that different. Both require a lot of... Continue reading
How to Know a Little About a Lot: Trivia Translated into Doodles
Most of us geeks have a thirst for knowledge. I’ve been a trivia hound as long as I can remember and while I’m not an authority on any one topic, I dibble dabble in lots of topics. That’s probably why I’m so in love with infographics. The site Learn Something Every Day takes an interesting nook of trivia everyday and draws a corresponding doodle to illustrate the fact. The site has been open for a year now so they already... Continue reading
Stuff You Might Not Have Known About eBay (Infographic)
So much to buy, so little time (and money). eBay launched a revolution of eCommerce which adopted the auction style of buying and selling, providing an equal outlet for both entrepreneurs and people just trying to get rid of the crap in their attic. The amount of business that flows through eBay these days is just overwhelmingly vast. Over $60 billion in sales travel across the eBay landscape per year. Ranging in topic from clothes, electronics, even custom LEGO minifigs.... Continue reading
What is the Most Awesomest Thing Ever?
While, for my money, the Internet and boobs are tied for the most awesomest thing ever, I can’t be the judge for everyone, but this website can. The Most Awesomest Thing Ever site uses a head-to-head competition system to try and figure out just what is the most awesomest thing ever. The thing with the most wins is deemed the most awesome. So far the most awesomest thing ever is, you guessed it, the Internet, and that likely won’t change... Continue reading
Robotize Me Turns You Into a Transformer
Used as a promotional device for the film, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, the Robotize Me website allows you to take your face and plaster it in the face hole of a Transformer of your choice. I chose Bumblebee, but their are a variety to choose from over at the site. This might be on the older side, but frankly, I don’t care. I hadn’t heard of it so there’s a good chance some of you haven’t either. Feel free... Continue reading
Circuit City: Officially Over
We’ve been following the Circuit City bankruptcy very closely. Yesterday, we showed you some of the liquidation “deals” that readers posted around the Internet. Nothing spectacular there, but even less spectacular is Circuit City’s official website. It has no online store now and just announces the closing of all its stores, bankruptcy proceedings and other legal jib-jab. After 60 years, Circuit City is done and all that’s left is for Best Buy to continue raking in the profits. Link
