Palm Pre Officially Drops June 6th

palm-prejpg-500x6661

Sprint and Palm just let the cat out of the bag: Come June 6th, you’ll be able to pick up a supposedly “decent” rival to the iPhone. The Pre will cost $199.99 after contract agreements and rebates, and will be sold Radio Shack, Best Buy and Walmart. Awesome? I guess, but does anyone use Sprint? I have zero friends with Sprint and don’t expect to be dicking around with a Pre anytime soon.

Palm Eos: The Pre’s Older, Yet Unborn, Brother

With all this talk about the Palm Pre, it’s easy to see how one could get washed up in the hype surrounding it. But check this out: It’s called the Palm Eos and it’s due out sometime after the Pre. It will use that WebOS Palm has been raving about and features a full QWERTY keyboard. Rumor has it that it will have Bluetooth, A-GPS, a 2-megapixel camera, a bunch of software and 4GB of internal memory. Seems like a solid bet as far as specs go, but we’re not holding our breath on anything Palm-related.

Palm Pre Dropping At Best Buy Next Month

Another Monday, another rumor.

This time around, “sources” are saying that the upcoming Palm Pre, complete with WebOS and all, is going to be available June 7th at Best Buy. However, this will be a limited rollout, with only 4500 units being available. The carrier? Sprint. And if that wasn’t bad enough, look at these pricing numbers being thrown around:

Pricing is supposedly still being discussed but the probable points are as follows: New customers with a 2-year contract, $199.99. Existing customer upgrades, $299.99. Outright, $999.99.

Hah! Good luck, Palm! You’re going to need it as you undoubtedly fail against Apple through poor planning, mismanagement and fucking around with the worst cellphone provider out there.

Palm Opens Up Pre SDK

Good news for those of you who are sick of the iPhone. Palm has finally let loose the Mojo SDK, which will enable developers to build apps for its upcoming Pre phone. In addition to the standard fare in a phone-based SDK, Palm is offering “cloud computing” services which emulate push technology. Sounds like someone is trying to compete with RIM and Apple!

Great news and all, but still nothing official on the Pre. Rumor has it that sometime in late April or early May we’ll see the Pre drop on the Sprint network. Until then, one can dream about clouds.
