Swim With The Monkees

I never really thought about implementing an idea like this but thankfully, Speedo and iRiver have already done the hard work for us. The Aquabeat Waterproof MP3 player has both an appropriate name and look. It can go up to three meters underwater and has a mind-blowing 1GB of storage. Then again, how much music are you gonna need underwater?

With everything being waterproof, I tried to think of how you could possibly use this thing while swimming in the ocean. Then it hit me that this is the perfect MP3 player for your boat or jet ski unless you have an Otter Box or something similar. Oh, and it floats like a turd in case you lose it. Seems like a sure win for $145.

Saran Wrap For Laptops

Summer is approaching, which means you’ll want to equip all your top-of-the-line tech gear with water resistant plastic sleeves to survive those long trips on your million dollar yacht. Like Vince’s custom zip lock bag he crafted with his own sweat and tears, it protects your gadgets from…sweat and tears; oh, also rain. While not completely water proof (due to the openings in the back to allow air flow), the plastic wrap provides more protection from afternoon showers than your goofy umbrella.

Come Sail Away With PSP

Try singing the title of this post to the tune of Styx’s “Come Sail Away” and I think you’ll find yourself mildly amused. Regardless, it seems for some reason, a random Japanese manufacturer feels that putting a piece of string around a ZipLock bag constitutes use as a waterproof case for your PSP. Would you buy this? Would you seriously take your easily-earned cash from selling pot to high schoolers and buy this “waterproof” PSP case? No and I’ll tell you why. I’ll show you how to make one:

Swim with your MP3 player, seriously!

nu dolphin mp3 player

Nu has been selling their waterproof mp3 player NU Doplphin in Taiwan for a while, but it has only been put in the spotlight when it gets exported to Australia. First off this mp3 player is truely waterproof, as it complies with the fairly stringent IPX7 standards. Secondly the inner-earbuds are silicone-made meaning that will stay in your ears even underwater, with the other end of the chord screwed tightly onto the mp3 player. Can you press buttons under water? Oh yes of course, the buttons are found at the end of thelipstick-like body. The NU Dolphin does not have any display on top, but who cares when you strap (bundled) it next to your goggles (pictured above). The cylinder measures 60×21x21mm and weighs 25g. The casing is made of durable aluminum and is also treated to be anti-scratch. The battery transfers music (MP3/WMA) and charges via USB 2.0. When fully charged, it is good to last for 8 hours. The 1GB model is selling for $150 in Taiwan and Australia, a 2GB model will be out soon, too. — Sam Chan

Floating iPod Sound System waterproofs your music - CES 2007

ego case

Summer might seem far away now, with temperatures well below the comfortable level, but these frigid months will pass quicker then you think. When the temperatures pull a 180 and become uncomfortably hot, you might want to just lie around the pool all day and soak. And if you don’t have a pool, at least in an iced bath tub. But what’s the fun of sitting by the pool if you don’t have your favorite tunes blaring through the speakers. Sure, you could connect your iPod to a stereo, but then every time you want to change the song you have to get off your tube, out of the refreshing water, to turn the song, while burning your feet on the hot concrete surface as a bonus. Atlantic offers a solution.

We don’t know if we would trust our iPod in a “waterproof” device unless that thing was guaranteed to be tighter then security at the Rose Bowl. Though the idea is a good one! The Atlantic Ego Waterproof Sound Case can be used in the shower, as well as swimming pools, Vietnam, baptisms, and rain forest. Pretty much anywhere that there is a substantial amount of moisture that would once be a deterrent in lugging around your iPod, is now able to be safely navigated and funkified with the sound of your favorite tunes. The Case is available now for a suggested retail price of $200 or 40000000000 bottle caps. — Andrew Dobrow
