Vista and iTunes 8 Not Playing Nice

Reports have been flowing in that iTunes 8 contains extra packages and specifically, a device driver, that is causing some Windows machines to freeze, lockup and not work properly. My friend just had this happen so I figured I’d post the fix here.

The recommended solution is to first uninstall Apple Mobile Device Support and iTunes, and then download and install the most recent version of iTunes. (Delete any previously downloaded versions.)

Also, try resetting your iPod if it starts acting wacky.

New Gates/Seinfeld Microsoft Video Released

Microsoft has released the latest Seinfeld collaboration video entitled “A Family Affair.” It stars Gates and Seinfeld at a family’s dinner table. The ad is an improvement over the painfully dull first video they did, but it still needs some work. I think the problem lies in the fact that the video is over four minutes long. No one spends that much time on YouTube let alone on Microsoft, so perhaps it should try shortening these videos. Either way, take a watch and you be the judge. Let us know what you think in the comments.

Time Killer: Windows Vista For Your Playstation 3

What happens when you put Windows Vista on a Playstation 3? Just an assload of down time, that’s what. This video shows some schmuck successfully running the OS under emulation and requiring nearly 25 minutes to fully boot up.  It even takes twelve minutes to load up Notepad, which is an amazing feat considering how demanding the application is. This would be the equivalent of watching paint dry in Sony Playstation’s Home community.  It’s even worse than Linux for the PS3. Yuck!

Midori: Beyond Windows

I can’t imagine a world without Windows. It seems like only yesterday I was spending hours trying to figure how to change my desktop wallpaper on Windows 3.1. Word is that Microsoft is getting a head start on their next operating system that’ll replace Windows entirely. Their new project, Midori, centers around the Internet, casting out the dependency your operating system has on a single PC. XP might have been dead, but now Windows altogether is officially dead.

Windows is unlikely to be able to cope with the pace of change in future technology and the way we use it, so Microsoft is forced to ditch the blue screen of death inducing OS in favor of something that isn’t tied tightly to a single computer’s hardware. Who cares if Vista was incomplete? It’s getting ditched regardless. Midori is their new incomplete “work in progess”.

Completely Unnecessary: The Bentley Laptop

Before we continue, we need to make sure you’re a black rapper with a ton of cash, bitches and no mortgages. If you meet the criteria, then proceed on to learn about an item that will not only make you look good, but will also allow you to wipe your ass with leather if you ever feel like it. Yes, it’s the Bentley laptop and yes, it’s real.

Unlike other high-end laptops (Lamborghini, Ferrari, etc.), this laptop costs significantly more and isn’t exactly the best computer on the market. Aside from the purse-like styling and fancy colored leather, the laptop features a beautiful Bentley logo, Windows Vista, “a 64-bit CPU” and a really lame 160GB hard drive. The price for the name of Bentley plastered on a shit item? $19,943.

Crazy Uncle Ballmer Admits Vista Is An “Incomplete Product”

ballmer.jpg

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer is one entertaining man. Both brutally unique and charismatic, something which he has recently shown is a certain level of humility. Ballmer has even gone as far as admitting that Vista is an “incomplete product”, while speaking at Microsoft’s Most Valuable Professionals event in Seattle yesterday.

Ballmer claims that the Vista OS is still a “work in progress”, even though this has been a product that Microsoft has been pushing for more than a year now. Though Ballmer has the sense to admit that Microsoft will learn from the mistakes they’ve made with Vista, possibly toning down the biggness of the OS, for something more on the XP end of the bloat scale, by the time the next OS release rolls around. Hopefully something like the old Longhorn demos. — Andrew Dobrow

Microsoft Exec Admits To Being Confused About “Vista Capable” Branding

Back before Vista was even released, we were confused as to what the “Vista Ready” or “Vista Capable” stickers on certain displays were all about. As it turns out, even MS execs are hard strung to come up with an explanation.

A current lawsuit against the company focuses on the “Vista Capable” branding as being confusing to PC buyers, and even Mark Croft, Microsoft’s director of marketing, displayed a certain amount of confusion and even sympathy for the plaintiff about the mis-branding. Microsoft better get their shit straight or they might have a serious problem on their hands. — Andrew Dobrow

It sure looks like an iPhone, but the real interesting thing about this Chinese rip-off is the OS it appears to be running. Check out the bottom right hand corner of the screen in the image above. Windows Vista?

A glimpse of how Windows Vista could have looked like

The new Windows Vista system is system-resource hungry, making your Core 2 Duo PC run like a PDA. The program itself isn’t cheap either, those who can’t afford it either go for illegal copies, or choose not to upgrade at all; but you got to give it to them, the new user interface (UI) does look good. Today we came across a set of graphics that were in the design pool (and Longhorn) during the Vista development process, these are the screens, wallpapers, icons and product packages that never made it to the final product. Perhaps they can “inspire” some fans to skin their Vista later. We’ve got a lot more pics after the jump.
