Roomba Turned Pac-Man

Filed under: DIYs, Gaming, Hacks, Robots, Wireless

Some Japanese kid used his incredible smarts and made himself a real Pac-Man from a Roomba. 448 LED lights scatter the top surface of the robot, emulating Pac-Man’s movements and chomps. He even included the old-school sound effects too!

The vacuum can be controlled via Bluetooth, allowing for an impressive wireless display of gaming. Too bad it probably becomes the most annoying robot ever after 10 minutes.

Thanko’s Vacuum Cleaner Mouse Makes You Have Forked Arms, Makes Germs Happy

thankovacuum.jpg

Or so you might be led to believe if you are to take the false advertising of Thanko literally. I mean, we know that they are just trying to show arm movement, but it really looks like the model has some weird arm mutation. While I wouldn’t mind having an extra arm, I really wouldn’t mind having something like the Thanko Vacuum Cleaner Mouse.

While the mouse isn’t some magic wand that will mystically make every item of clutter vanish (or even provide a satisfactory mouse experience with standard three button, USB 1.1 mouse and a 800dpi sensor), it seems like a decent solution for picking up the odd crumb or dust when you need a little refreshing. — Andrew Dobrow

The level of excitement 12-year-old Kyle Krichbaum gets from vacuums is simply disturbing. He’s had an obsession of them since he was born and now owns over 150 of them. There’s really no reason anybody should know so much about cleaning machines, which is why we bow down to him in humble envy of his fanatic gizmo-loving. Check out his reaction when he recieves the vacuum he always wanted. With that said, I hope I never have to utter that phrase again. — Andrew Dobrow

Matsushita Vacuum Cleaner MC-P7000JX eats your dust

Vacum.jpg

Matsushita really pumps up the vacuum with its new P7000. With the addition of a new brush to its suction opening, instead of the typical solo brush, the P7000 offers a solution for high powered vacuum needs. Each of the two brushes move in opposite directions, picking up any fleeing dust particles that cross its path.

The P7000 also packs a negative ion generator. It discharges negatively charged particles from its exhaust pipe to excite dust in the air. The dust bag also becomes charged because of collecting the charged dust particles which pools the dust to the center of the bag, allowing superior cleaning power.

The P7000, besides being 10 dB lower volume then previous Matsushita vacuums, measures in a 268 x 360 x 211 mm, weighing in at 5.5kg with all the attachments (3.4kg without). The P7000JX will be available on April 25th in Japan for 80,000 yen ($685). — Andrew Dobrow

Kone Vacuum designed specifically for kone heads

dirt devil kone hand vacuumIt seems nowadays that every appliance is getting the same treatment as computers: every three months your computer is outdated. Yes this problem has even come to the vacuum with the Kone, the next step in vacuum design. This vacuum steps out in a different direction with its design because, you guessed it, it’s shaped like a cone. The folks over at Dirt Devil created this vacuum with the help of Karim Rashid so that you could have it near you all the time; they say you can put this cordless piece of “artworkâ€? anywhere in your house, they just fail to mention the part about your friends asking why the hell you have a cone in your living room. The cradle that the vacuum sits is has a soft-glow light so you can find it for those times in the middle of the night where you get the strange urge to vacuum. Dirt Devil took into account you might have different styles in each of your homes, so they came out with 6 different colors; now you have no excuse to show off this beauty in your home. At $50, the Kone Vacuum by Dirt Devil, with its 7.2 volt motor, might be a nice addition to your home if you like showing off your appliances; if not, stick to a normal vacuum like normal people. — Nick Rice

VacuView lets you know when wine turns into vinegar

Just when Christmas is over and New Year’s eve is approaching, you might want to take a break from all that booze and partying. It might be worthwhile to save whatever’s left in the bottle, it would be great if the wine doesn’t turn sour, it would even be better if you can see when it has been kept for too long. Globalwine Japan has got this handy and inexpensive VacuView that not only sucks air out of the bottle, but with a movable stopper that can indicate if too much gas has been generated when you leave the bottle standing for too long. They’re selling this for US$18 at Amazon Japan.
