USB Microscope: So Nerdy It Hurts

pc-microscope.jpg

What could possibly be a better gift for your family science nerd? This USB Microscope, Webcam, Hub combo gadget is nerdy to the tenth power (rather than nerdy to the V8 power). Want to take a closer look at the soda cap that has been sitting under your desk for the last three years? Here’s a way to do so.

The Microscope part of this gadget actually works without the USB, though when plugged into the USB port, you can view the specimen on your computer screen, and even add text and special effects to whatever scientific monstrosity you can view with this device. You’ll need Windows XP and 2 AA batteries to operate this toy. Just don’t go feeding it to your dog. It’s not a USB Dog Toy. And we doubt your dog is interested anyway. Get your own for $70. — Andrew Dobrow

USBCELL Reinvents Recharging Batteries

usbcell_179.jpg

Think about the masses of AA batteries you go through every year. How many of them could have been reused with an easier method of recharging? Even though we already have plenty of gadgets we charge from our computer, USBCELL allows us to save some money too.

The USBCELL batteries charge right from a USB port on your computer, and are fully powered to provide 5 hours of constant battery usage. Then you just recharge them again. This helpful gadget would also reduce the amount of batteries in our landfills, which is just an environmental hazard waiting to happen. — Andrew Dobrow

Wireless mouse works battery free

mousefree_1.jpg

My wireless mouse dies about once a month. And God forbid I use the built in touch pad! This Battery Free Wireless Mouse needs no batteries at all. The mouse is powered by an electrical field emitted from the mouse pad, powered from the USB port.

The high quality optical mouse never needs to have batteries replaced since their simply isn’t any. It keeps going, and going, and going. Without the help of batteries. Take that Energizer Bunny, you cocky bastard. — Andrew Dobrow

Dance Dance Revolution….Tap style

usbdance

Dance Dance Revolution better look into their copyright infringement laws on this one. The USB Dance Mat is a way for DDR addicts to get their fix of dance madness, even at work. The Dance Mat plugs right into your USB port and works similar to the way the normal DDR works, except it is completely played using your fingers. The game play is reminiscent of the old Simon games as you have to follow the patterns of lights to ramp up your score.

The Dance Mat comes with a little dance puppet to stick your fingers thorough, making your claws look like John Travolta grooving in Saturday Night Fever. Playing the game is as easy as plugging it into the nearest USB drive. Just try and make sure it’s your own. Available for $13.16. — Andrew Dobrow

USB Photo Cube for squares

3d_1.jpg

There must be a USB for just about everything nowadays, but we are still yet to get sick of the wacky USB creations companies keep releasing. Here is the USB Desktop Digital Photo Cube. A cube that connects through any USB port and stores up to 30 of your photos, serving as a little desktop nook.

The picture is really misleading on its size. The cubes screen is a miniature one inch wide, with the entire cube measurements being 2 5/8″ inches on all sides. How good of a picture could you really see on something that small? To add to the overall effect, the cube also has “mood lighting” and is only compatible with Windows 98 and up. — Andrew Dobrow

Kick-Off Automatic Crash Recovery: The BSOD’s are coming for you!

kickoff.jpg

No matter how much RAM or other hardware you shove in to your case, no computer system is immune from it. That’s right…a computer crash. Any system can burst at the seems with the high performance of our Web 2.0 world. It’s nice to have the knowledge to know that even though your system might crash, at least you don’t have to arrive back at your desk to a glaring blue screen.

The Kick-Off connects into your USB port, keeping a constant tab on your hardware performance. So what does the Kick-Off do that we can’t do ourselves? Let’s say the computer system that controls the network in your house were to crash, yet the resident nerd wasn’t home to fix it (probably at a anime convention). The Kick-off automatically reboots your system and even goes as far to cause a power off/on switch if needed.

For $179, the Kick-Off can be yours. Keeping your business up and running, connected to those series’ of tubes known as the internet. A bargain for any business who knows what down time feels like. — Andrew Dobrow
