Mixa: Mixtapes For The Future

mixa_landscape.jpg

I can’t even count the number of old mixtapes I have lying around my house. It’s a shame that everything is digitalized now because I had some really great mixes put together. Mixa tries to mix the old art of the mix tape (those who lived through the era know it was an art form) by offering a 1GB cassette shaped USB drive.

Mixa allows you to design your own design for the face of the cassette, or you can choose a pre-made one. Whatever floats your boat. You can get your own Mixa tape for around $40. It’s not the same as the real thing, but it will have to do. — Andrew Dobrow

USB Drive is also a business card

picture_1_2_2.png

Uniquely designed business cards have been sort of a tech blog trend as of the last few weeks. And while we’re not ones to conform, this is one time that we will follow the herd. This business card not only advertises your company, but doubles as a working USB drive.

While it not might be the most practical or financially safe way to go, if you have some extra dough your willing to spend on some advertising, the 1 GB USB business card would be a cool way to go. The downside is that they are about $55 a pop, or in other words, $1000 for a set of 30, or in even more other words, mucho pesos. — Andrew Dobrow

USB Eraser is made to delete your work

eraserusb_1.jpg

Do you remember in grade school, the importance of having a cool eraser? I know now it seems like, “Wow, gearfuse, what in the world are you talking about?”, but trust me, it was a big thing. The USB Eraser, designed by Outofstock, pays homage to the old rectangular erasers from years past. It’s a wonder something we all used to use so much could be so easily forgotten.

Irony lies in the USB Eraser’s making, as the eraser is for vanquishing your work and the USB drive is for writing data. We see what your trying to do Outofstock, and we like it. — Andrew Dobrow

Spongebob USB Drive mates with a blowfish

spongebob_1.jpg

This, my friends, is very sadly not a real product. Although we hope that the coverage of the design gets enough press so that it DOES become an actual product. This Spongebob USB drive looks like any other old drive. That is, until it’s full of data.

When the drive is full of your data, the Spongebob case expands into a blowfish-like mutant creature. You might ask yourself, what the hell does a blowfish have to do with Spongebob? Well, at least they both live under the sea. We’ve seen more obscure unions in the past. — Andrew Dobrow

DIY: Indestructible USB Drive

usb_drive_48.jpg

USB drives are definitely cool to have around. Though, a lot of the time, we would would never trust them with important data files, just because they break too damn easy. If you have one in your pocket and you sit the wrong way, forget about it. It’s history. Luckily for us, this happened one to many times to modder Russell Jones, the hack artist of the Indestructible USB drive.

Made of a hard aluminum casing, this DIY project will make your USB drive virtually indestructible, even under the most harsh of tight pants situations. It’s a easy step by step mod so you should be able to keep up. — Andrew Dobrow

Dance Dance Revolution….Tap style

usbdance

Dance Dance Revolution better look into their copyright infringement laws on this one. The USB Dance Mat is a way for DDR addicts to get their fix of dance madness, even at work. The Dance Mat plugs right into your USB port and works similar to the way the normal DDR works, except it is completely played using your fingers. The game play is reminiscent of the old Simon games as you have to follow the patterns of lights to ramp up your score.

The Dance Mat comes with a little dance puppet to stick your fingers thorough, making your claws look like John Travolta grooving in Saturday Night Fever. Playing the game is as easy as plugging it into the nearest USB drive. Just try and make sure it’s your own. Available for $13.16. — Andrew Dobrow
