Cloud Cremation: Setting Out For the Data Bank in the Sky with a Sun SPARCstation Urn

sparcstation-urn

Just as they say “live by the sword, die by the sword,” the same goes for geeks. Mr. Alan here was such a fan of his Sun SPARCstation that his ashes were placed inside of one (a SPARCstation in pristine condition I might add), complete with a name plate decked out with a quote from what other show then, you guessed it, Star Trek. Mr. Larry Ellison could not be more mortified honored.

As long as he wasn’t placed in a creepy life-like image of himself, that’s fine with me.

Immortalize Your Likeness with 3D Urn

I’m really not sure what to think about this. The power of 3D technology has been leading in this direction for a while, it was only a matter of time. Personal Urns use 3D technology to create a 3D image of the deceased and then using that image to create an urn model.

Once the Personal Urn is complete, you can keep the deceased’s ashes in a model head of their own image. Does this seem a little odd or is it just me? I think I’d rather have one of those Star Trek urns, or at least have my ashes scattered throughout the nearest Apple store or something.

Death by Star Trek

Wow. Just wow.

Take a minute. Let’s get one more “wow” in. OK. WOW.

Seems a coffin and urn manufacturer called Eternal Image (you may have heard of them before) pulled quite the licensing deal. It’s now providing officially licensed Star Trek caskets and urns so that when you die and go on to that great gig in the sky, you’ll feel just like Captain Kirk. If you’re cheap and go the way of cremation, the 2009 urn will make your dead loved one look like a creepy black orb. Lovely. Way to go out in style.

The casket, however, is actually pretty bad ass. It’s got a nice red velvet interior, plenty of Star Trek symbols and what looks like a “power on” switch on the side. It’d probably make a cool bed for children. Vampire children, that is. Hit the jump for a picture of the coffin.

Star Trek Gear For Your Final Journey To The Stars

picture-21.png

Eternal Image has announced a line of Star Trek funeral gear. Great for that last trip into the heavens. Featured is both a Star Trek Urn and a Star Trek Coffin. Are you geeky enough to demand this gear in your will?

The Star Trek Urn is designed to resemble the 24th century feel of the United Federation of Planets and Starfleet and will be available in late 2007. The coffin is based on the design of the photon torpedo from The Wrath Of Khan and will be available in 2008. For those of you planning to die within the next year, you might want to pre-order one of these. (more…)
