Shaq Has A Twitter Account

Not feeling well this morning but this certainly cheered me up. It seems that basketball star Shaquille O’Neal has his own Twitter account and some of the shit he’s been saying is hilarious. His feed can be found at twitter.com/THE_REAL_SHAQ. Here’s a few choice tweets from the Space Jam alumni:

“Detective oneal does not jordan vander sloots story about what happened to natalee”
“Mark crow, larry jones, and i recieved 36 thousand jars of peanut butta tonite at victory church in oklahoma city “
“My genius is 1 percent inspiration 99 percent perspiration Shaquille o’neal”

I swear, I couldn’t make this shit up if I wanted to. If I ever sign up for Twitter, this will be the sole reason why.

Twitter Developer Cries That “Internet Is Broken”

The nerve of some people! Alex Payne, the lead API developer at Twitter, is claiming that the Internet is broken. He is then kind enough to point out its flaws and what he feels will happen because of the so-called “broken Internet.”

I’ve got some words of advice for Alex: Fix your fucking APIs and your fucking service before you start complaining about the one thing that makes your company (Twitter) a reality. If I had a dollar every time Twitter was down, I’d probably buy you out.

This is why I don’t use Twitter. It’s a fad and it’s essentially, a service for losers and nerds who don’t have enough friends in real-life to text message. Seriously. Try texting your friends. Same shit as Twitter. Maybe we’ll see Payne wake up and smell the rotting whale carcass.

Tweets On The Real

Designer Marc Owens came up with a machine that prints out little sheets of paper with a date-stamp and time-stamp. Write in your own message, slap it on a street sign and boom: instant tweet. It’s like Twitter for people without friends. Something like that.

Berny Morson Is A Negligent Douche

It doesn’t get much worse than a virtual funeral of a fellow player in World Of Warcraft but that situation has just been one-upped. For some bizarre reason, Rocky Mountain News thought it’d be productive to live blog the funeral today of Marten Kudlis, the 3-year old boy killed at an ice cream store last week.

So, the reporter hopped on Twitter and kept the Internet updated with step by step coverage of the boy’s funeral ceremony. Tragically, the boy was killed last Thursday when Francis Hernandez, an illegal immigrant, crashed into a Baskin Robbins store in Aurora where the boy was waiting to get ice cream. Depressing, almost as depressing as this reporter’s Twitter updates:

Twitter Doorbell Hack

Filed under: DIYs, Hacks, Internet, Wireless

Twitter users take note: you can now tweet to ring a doorbell. While I’m not a Twitter user or fan of the service, I can appreciate how useful of a hack this is for people who can’t knock because their hands are full or something of the sort. The project is built around an Arduino, which is another why it’s so awesome. It’s a really easy project and even an Arduino novice could whip it up in an hour.

Of course, if anyone can tweet your doorbell you’re going to be in for a rough week.

Why, God? Why? Twitter For The DS

If you’re a Twitter whore and you just so happen to own a Nintendo DS, then you’ll be pleased to know that accessing Twitter is now possible on your portable gaming system. Unfortunately, it’s only in Spanish at the moment, but if you’re desperate to let everyone know when you’re eating and shitting then I’m sure you can get around the language barrier. DSTwitter is free, all you’ve got to do is follow these steps:

  • Prepare a memory card (R4DS) and the DS’s WiFi connection.
  • Register to the Scene Beta website. Username and email required.
  • Download the DSTwitter 1.3 .RAR file.
  • Extract the contents “in the root of the memory card.”
  • Input Twitter login.
  • Run the program.
  • Before you know it you’ll be Twitter-ing it up at a McDonalds WiFi hotspot, letting all your friends know that you just ate three big macs in a row. It’s interesting to see what fans will come up with in terms of development for the DS. As for myself,  I’m waiting for the TumblrDS in English, so thanks but no thanks.

Snowl: Mozilla’s Take On Messaging In Your Browser

Is there anything Mozilla doesn’t create that facilitates your web surfing experience? Firefox 3 came out back in June, yet Mozilla is still working hard to provide its users with top end interactivity for its interweb softwares. Now, Mozilla wants to take its browser to the next level with instant messaging integrated into your web browsing. It’s called Snowl, that’s Snow and Owl combined for the less observant. Mozilla Labs lists a few key ideas behind their design phase:

    • It doesn’t matter where messages originate. Whether they come from traditional email servers, RSS/Atom feeds, web discussion forums, social networks, or other sources, they are all the same.
    • Some messages are more important than others, and the best interface for actively reading important messages is different from the best one for casually browsing unimportant ones.
    • A search-based interface for message retrieval is more powerful and easier to use than one that makes you organize your messages first to find them later.
    • Browser functionality for navigating web content, like tabs, bookmarks, and history, also works well for navigating messages.

As of now, Snowl is still in its prototype phase but is free to download at the link provided below. It supports two sources of messages: RSS/Atom feeds and Twitter. No word on whether or not Ogio will make a Snowl backpack. If they did, I’d rock it. Hit the jump for more information:

Control Electricity With Twitter And Your Cellphone

Filed under: DIYs, Hacks, Internet, Laptops

The social networking site Twitter has more function than meets the eye. Hacknmod.com has shown that with Twitter, connecting your laptop to electrical devices will have you turning them on and off by simply sending a text message to your Twitter account. No need for “clap on, clap off” anymore. Just curtail the text message so you can spam it, turning your apartment into your very own rave. Get everyone in your building in on it and you all could display an illuminated game. The possibilities are endless!
