Chinese phone companies are amazing, after ripping off Porsche they’re going after Microsoft today… but this time it really deserves some attention. First off it houses a 3″ QVGA touch screen in a 17mm thin body, booo Nokia. Secondly it has stereo speakers, booo SonyEricsson; but seriously we’re starting to feel sorry for Microsoft, their Vista sold only 244 copies and their UI was ripped off by Meizu, now we have this “Window” phone…

Is it a HiFi? No it’s just a cellphone

hifi1.jpg

You’ve got to give it to them, Chinese companies these days are just commercializing phones that we’ve all just dreamed of at some stage. We had the Nokia N73 clone — Nokir E828 that packed an even larger touch screen with a decent camera at an unbeatable price; we had a cigarette pack incorporated to a phone. Today we came across this Thunder Super Radio HiFi phone with a huge huge huge soundblaster, built on the back, that is extremely loud and clear. The screen is a 2.4″ TFT and the camera is of 1.3 megapixels. The phone takes microSD cards, and can play MP3 and MP4. The extra screen on the back can display track information such as artist and song title. For now we do not have much details about the phone, apart from the fact that it’s being sold in Taiwan and runs on Dualband GSM. More pictures after the jump.

We showed you a modernized antique cellphone that puts color screen, mp3 player, bluetooth and camera into the old retro body. What would happen if you were able to detach the new part from the old body? Well, a shop in Taiwan has started selling such cellphone. When you feel like looking retro and have a backpack with you, tie the retro body; when you don’t want to carry any bag you can simply detach the tiny phone module and slide it into your pocket. Perfect. Oh, also check out the super old-school compass on that retro body. No news on the price just yet. Jump for more pictures.

Pimp out ALL your cellphones in Taiwanese style

When we saw the BenQ-Siemens’ over-pimped EF-71 phone, we thought it was a joke. It wasn’t until Samsung announced collaboration with Swarovski then we realized there’s an actual market need. The Taiwanese just can’t seem to wait for those phones to come out, so they started Blinging up their own phones with fancy stickers, and they have to stick them -all-over- the phone. You can pretty much find them everywhere in Taiwan by now, the most expensive ones would be those made with Swarovski crystals. Jump for more glamorous shots.

World’s first cellphone supporting both DVB-T and DVB-H

t6001.jpg

Taiwanese cellphone company GIGABYTE has unveiled the world’s first cellphone that supports both DVB-T and DVB-H digital broadcasting standards. The t600 is also a smartphone that runs on Windows Mobile 6 Professional, the CPU is an Intel PXA270 520Mhz which is reasonably powerful. The t600 has 256MB ROM and 96MB RAM, external memory used here is microSD. In terms of connectivity, Bluetooth 2.0, WiFi WLAN 802.11b/g and USB2.0 are all supported. The antenna actually also works as a stylus, it can even extend to be longer than the device itself (pics after the jump), making the pen a lot easier to use. The t600 is able to record programs broadcasted digitally with the CyberLink Mobile TV program pre-installed, it also has a 2 megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash. The device itself fairly small measuring 110.5 x 55.5 x 18.5 mm, keep in mind that the main display is a 2.6″ VGA screen (lovely). GIGABYTE claimed that the 1000mAh battery is good for 5 hours of TV on DVB-H and 3 hours on DVB-T. Talk time goes up to 3 hours and the standby time can be as long as 150 hours. So the t600 is one of the most pocketable and powerful WM6 devices around, it will go on sales in Taiwan this April. No news on price yet, but expect this to be cheaper than most HTC devices. We know for some of you the thought of a larger MacBook makes you drool. You might be seeing them quicker then you think. Sources in Taiwan are saying that a 15.4-inch MacBook might be shipping by mid-year. With MacBook sales ever increasing so far in 2007, the sources also say it is most likely to see even more of a boost in sales with the release of the 15.4-inch MacBook. The 15.4-inch MacBook Pros are currently very expensive and relate to a small percentage of the Mac sales. The new laptops are also rumored to be being produced by Quanta, the same computer company who produces MacBook Pros, rather then Asus. — Andrew Dobrow

Swim with your MP3 player, seriously!

nu dolphin mp3 player

Nu has been selling their waterproof mp3 player NU Doplphin in Taiwan for a while, but it has only been put in the spotlight when it gets exported to Australia. First off this mp3 player is truely waterproof, as it complies with the fairly stringent IPX7 standards. Secondly the inner-earbuds are silicone-made meaning that will stay in your ears even underwater, with the other end of the chord screwed tightly onto the mp3 player. Can you press buttons under water? Oh yes of course, the buttons are found at the end of thelipstick-like body. The NU Dolphin does not have any display on top, but who cares when you strap (bundled) it next to your goggles (pictured above). The cylinder measures 60×21x21mm and weighs 25g. The casing is made of durable aluminum and is also treated to be anti-scratch. The battery transfers music (MP3/WMA) and charges via USB 2.0. When fully charged, it is good to last for 8 hours. The 1GB model is selling for $150 in Taiwan and Australia, a 2GB model will be out soon, too. — Sam Chan
