Geek Squad Installs Gaming Systems For The Technically Confused

Who would’ve thought that all of those AV nerds in high school would one day work on Best Buy’s Geek Squad. If geeks you know haven’t gotten a job on the squad then your next bet is to check your local Radio Shack. This holiday season, it’s not Radio Shack trying to steal your money with cheap RC cars and hearing aid batteries, it’s the Geek Squad with its gaming system set up service.

For the holiday season, Geek Squad will be offering a new service that will set up game consoles including the PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360. Part of the set up includes installing parental restrictions, controls and even the Internet. Sometimes AV inputs and a power cord can be too much for some folks. Don’t worry, the Geek Squad is here to help. No mention of the price of the service if you purchased a system from Best Buy, however, the Geek Squad will charge you $30 bucks if you bought it elsewhere. It’s almost as much of a hoax as that Bluetooth set up service it offers.

DIY Nintendo Digital Clocks

Nothing is more fun than taking a broken video game console and putting it to good use. Years ago, I turned a Dreamcast into a guitar amplifier, which was one of my favorite DIY projects. Now we have some hardware hackers turning NES and SNES systems into bedside clocks. Hollow out some cartridges, turn ‘em into a clock and lock and load. That’s the idea here. If you want to make your own, hit the link below and try to piece together what was used to build the clocks. Gotta run. It’s Burger Time.

UPDATE 5/21: Make sure to check out this post, too: Sorry to Disappoint, Fanboys.

The console wars were more ferocious than any other war in history. You could say they top the Vietnam War, but you won’t. Many companies would rise and fall through the video game crash of 1983, yet only one would prevail to be the most terrible. And now, dear reader, I present to you the 10 worst systems of all time.

Duel Systems ends hardship of ExpressCard notebook users

duel systems dueladapter

The new laptops are coming out with ExpressCard slots, which can be a nice change; too bad all the companies that produce PC cards must not have gotten the memo because the number of ExpressCards pales in comparison to all the PC cards out there. Well now Duel systems ended that hardship with the release of the DuelAdaptor. What this does is it allows you to plug in a PC card in one end and then the other end plugs into your ExpressCard slot. Duel Systems brags about how this is faster than PC card to USB, and if they are right, this could be a high selling product. Many people already have old PC cards, and many are also looking for ExpressCards for their specific need and can’t seem to find them. If people find out about this thing, the PC card manufacturers won’t have to switch over to Express, they can just sit on their cans and watch everyone change for them. The DuelAdaptor is set to come out early next month for an estimated price of $119. As of right now this is a good fix for those of us with ExpressCard slots, but everyone else should get on it with this and start making ExpressCards for us; we can take so many wires on our desk. — Nick Rice
