Darth Vader Misfits Skull Spotted on City Street

darth-vader-misfits

I’m not quite sure of what city this awesome Darth Vader/Misfits Skull wheatpaste graffiti was found, though we do know it was on Lake Street in some city, somewhere. Although the two are unrelated, it sort of works out great.

Children of the late 70s are going to be really happy with this one.

iBanksyMachine Allows Anyone To Be Banksy

ibanksy1

Have you ever dreamed that you too could be a mysterious super-awesome political street artist like Banksy? Here is your chance, no matter how lame it might be. The iBanksyMachine is basically a vending machine which doles out instant Banksy stenciling kits.

Included in the kits are stencils of some of Banksy’s most popular street pieces, along with spray paint and instructions on how to rip the guy off. They say imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, but this is ridiculous. There are an assortment of iBanksyMachines strewn across London. Let us know if you encounter one. And please, feel free to smash the fucking thing if you do. More Banksy-fakery after the jump.

Street Art in Seville

Free wi-fi is surprisingly hard to come by across in Europe, so I wasn’t able to post much during my recent trip across the pond. I’ve made it back home safe and sound now so this weekend and next I’ll be posting more of what I saw on my travels. One place I checked out was Seville, an ancient city in Southern Spain that’s always been an important center for arts and culture.

In addition to being the birthplace of 17th century painter Diego Velazquez and flamenco dancing, Seville is the the setting for several operas, a novel by famed author Miguel Cervantes, and the tale of legendary lover Don Juan. Today Seville is carrying on it’s artistic tradition by being home to some of the coolest street art that I saw during my European journey.

Lisbon’s Street Art Scene

Lisbon is an old city where medieval castles, fortresses, and ancient Roman aqueducts can be found right in the heart of downtown. Incredible grafitti is also prominent in Lisbon, especially alongside the city’s many rail lines. After the jump, check out some of the best street art that I saw during my time in the Portugese capital.

Beijing’s Street Art Scene

If you’re looking for a more realistic view of Beijing than the fake fireworks and lipsynching on Olympics broadcasts check out these photos. Roving reporters from the art blog Supertouch brought back excellent shots of street art, fashion, architecture, and hilariously misspelled english-language signage.

China is known for a harsh treatment of prisoners and intense government censorship. Beijing isn’t a place where I’d expect to find graffiti, but apparently there’s lots of great street art in the city. Read more to see some of the best examples graffiti and stencil artwork from Supertouch’s Beijing gallery.

Street Art Makes The World More Pixel-y

picture-4.png

Found on the streets of New York, located on the NYU campus, between 2nd and 3rd St. by the Barney Building, sits a hidden gem of street art. Captured and uploaded onto Flickr by user hungryghoast, the “Flowing Pixel” street sculpture depicts a faucet spitting out pixelated water.

The piping sort of reminds me from that secret area in Super Mario Brothers’ where you would press down while in the center of one of the pipes on the first level, and be thrust into a little room pull of gold coins. Bonus round FTW! — Andrew Dobrow
