Cube Office Desk with Strategically Placed Storage

cube-office-desk1

What is it about cubes that activates our innate geeky attraction? Does it have something to do with our natural attraction to Geometry and segmented squares? I don’t know, I was never great at math. But what I do know is that anything involving cubes usually catches my eye.

This Matthius Pugin’s Cube Office Desk is particularly awesome because it’s composed of variously sized multi-colored cubes which can all be used as individual storage hubs. It sort of makes all other desks feel like a waste of space.

Stuffed Star Trek Spock USB Drive

spockdrive1

Leonard Nimoy will be honored to discover that all of his promotion of living long and prospering has paid off. Forget the reams of fans and the flocks of trekkies. Spock can now find comfort in the fact that he has been immortalized as a USB flash drive which more closely resembles an Asian teen dressed in a Spock outfit.

Seriously, look at those eyes and tell me Spock doesn’t love kungfu fighting.

As per usual, once the personified drive is decapitated, the storage fun begins. Grab your own from Etsy for $35.

World Cup Figurines Become USB Drives Post-Decapitation

usbsoccer4

I can hardly pretend to love soccer with the same devotion as some of you. Here’s how you know someone doesn’t love soccer as much as you. Number one, they don’t drink tea at a certain time every day. Two, they drive on the right side of the road. Three, they say mile instead of kilometer.

But if you are one of those soccer-frenzied hooligans and don’t mind a little decapitation to go with your data storage, these World Cup Player USB drives might be a nifty little gadget to tote around in your pocket.

Floppy Flash Drive

floppydisk

Don’t go getting any ideas with the title, mister. This here is straight out of the Doom and Apogee days. Shareware anyone? Keep your games, movies and other things totaling larger than 1.44MB on this floppy disk flash drive. I have no idea who made it, how much it costs or if it requires OS/2.

Swiss Army Knife Shelf

shelf

Take a close look at this shelf. At first glance, it appears to be nothing more than a typical wooden shelf resting on a wall. But upon further inspection, one will discover a multitude of swing-out shelves built-into the main unit. Hang your keys, put up some books, look at yourself in the mirror. Hell, who cares what you do with the shelf as long as you put it to good use.

New Drobo Pro Gets 8 Slots

360imagejpg

I’ve been a fan of the Drobo since the original debuted a few years ago. For those of you unfamiliar with it, it’s an external hard drive enclosure that hooks up to your PC or Mac via USB. You plug hot-swappable drives in and take them out without any sort of repercussions thanks to Drobo’s intelligent software.

Before, Drobo held four drives. Today, it holds 8, allowing for a theoretical 64TB of storage. No one has that kind of money or data but for the rest of us, it means fail-safe storage space. Don’t expect to net the Drobo Pro for cheap, however. Empty, it runs $1300 and with 4TB of drives, it’ll set you back $1850. Yikes!

Ultrashelf Commands You To Organize

032009ikeashelvingtowerjpg

What’s that? Did you say your sister-in-law is a decorator? Oh, that’s cute. Good to know, but see, I won’t be needing your services. No, no, my good pal Eva came by and I handed her $1100 and said “Organize my space!” Well after a trip to IKEA and several hours, she was done. The result is a living room with more space than I could have every truly imagined. Eva took all those EXPEDIT bookshelves she bought and merged them all into one gigantic bookshelf. Makes sense, no? Forget that. Does it not look fabulous? Now if only I could convert it into a secret compartment…

Underground Storage For Japanese Bike Owners

Here in New York City, there are a few select parking garages that are an example of master engineering. In Japan, the same concept applies to bicycles. Giken’s Eco-Park system involves an underground storage unit that is earthquake-proof and can hold a good number of bicycles (~50). For about $30, you can store your ride here each month and retrieve it whenever you see fit. It only takes about 11 seconds to retrieve a bike, too! Students only have to pay half of that and don’t have to worry about storing their bikes in already-small dorms.

Why don’t we have systems like this in the United States? It’s perfect for those with small studio apartments or dorm rooms, which is clearly the target demographic for the Eco-Park.

Turn Your iPhone Into A Portable Disk

statusitemscreenshot

I love my iPhone 3G. I really do. I also loved my short-lived iPod Touch but that’s another story for another day. Anyway, one of the things I hate about the iPhone is how you can’t drag and drop files on to the device for storage. All that becomes fixed with iPhoneDisk and a filesystem appropriately titled MacFUSE. When you connect your iPhone to your Mac, it’ll appear like any other storage device. You’ll be able to drag-and-drop at your leisure, my friend.
