Ergonomic Split Keyboard Turned Steampunk

Filed under: DIYs, Design, Hacks, Peripherals

Ergonomic split keyboards have always been hideous looking. Who wants two halves of a keyboard, anyway? Stenographers, that’s who. So, Datamancer turned a rare IBM M-15 Ergo Keyboard into a steampunk keyboard for steampunk stenographers who’ve been looking for a matching keyboard to go with their headsets and goggles.

The quality of the keyboard is superb. Packing violet LED lights, a soft burgundy wrist pad and a detailed acanthus-leaf pattern on the brass, it almost appears to be merely an adjustment to appearance. However, Datamancer has done so much more. Adding an integrated touchpad mouse, which is located at the center of the keyboard, relieves its users of having to search for that hard-to-find steampunk mouse.

Steampunk Goggles With Variable Aperture

Talk about intricate craft! These steampunk goggles from Mike Brown are made with absolute precision, featuring leather bolted directly to the titanium eyepieces. 48 bolts are used to hold each lens in place. You can adjust the aperture in each eye to give you enhanced vision. Oh, and they’ll last for “500 years plus.” Quite possibly the finest work of steampunk eyewear to ever grace this planet.

The Cream Of The Steampunk Crop

We’ve been looking for some steampunk gear to match our new headphones and cane for a while now. Thanks to WETA’s steampunk raygun, the set is complete and I am now an official member of the Wild Wild West 2 movie crew. It’s called the “The Unnatural Selector - A Ray-Blunderbuss from Dr Grordbort’s,” and does little more than hang on your wall, looking pretty. Of course, you could always dismount it and run a muck wreaking havoc on unsuspecting foes.

Before you get in to any mischief, you’ll have to put a mortgage on your house because this thing goes from $4,500 to $7,900 dollars depending on what edition you settle with. Why so much? Despite all the detail put into this thing, it’ll also have your name engraved on it. Now, that’s cool.

Awesome Steampunk Headphones Don’t Actually Work

Here at Gearfuse, we love seeing all the cool Steampunk twists people put on regular products. Sadly, this awesome set of Steampunk headphones that you see pictured above is actually just a non-functional model.

A guy from Chicago who calls himself Nicrosin made this “Mechanical Aural Communication Device” as a prop with “sculpey, rubber, and… various pocket watch parts,” the earpieces have a suede lining. Real Steampunk headphones that look like the inside of a watch would be awesome. Hopefully, someone will take a cue from Nicrosin’s idea and make a working version of these.

Casio’s Steampunk Watch

You’ve got your Steampunk shoes, cane, and even the Steampunk gas mask, so why not complete the look by getting yourself a Steampunk watch? Casio’s G-Shock line of timepieces is wildly popular for its funky modern styling, but the new G8100A-5 uses bronze-colored aluminum and rubber to create a blend between high-tech and retro that’s bound to be irresistible to Steampunk fanatics.

Like all G-Shock watches, the G8100A-5 is packed with features. It has a countdown clock, multifunction alarm, worldwide timekeeping, and my favorite G-Shock feature, an automatic backlight that turns on with a flick of the wrist. Casio’s Steampunk watch is on sale at their web site for $99.

Reebok EXT-LUX Collection

So you’ve spent all weekend working on your latest steampunk outfit. You have the helmet, the walking stick and even the pooch. You and your posse are ready to take the world by storm…except for one thing: your shoes are lame. Those blue Nike Air Force Ones aren’t going to make the cut for your outfit.

Lucky for you, Reebok will be releasing a new line of shoes in Japan on Friday, July 18th. While everyone’s out seeing The Dark Knight, you’ll be picking up the sick new EXT-LUX edition Reebok Insta Pump Fury shoe. Your friend will score the Pump Omnilites and before you can scream “Airship!”, you’ll be adding bolts and rust to these kicks in an effort to give them the authentic steampunk look. More coal!

Steampunk Taxidermy: Bambi’s Revenge

What if Bambi was part robot? Oh, and stuffed. This stuffed fawn has been given the Steampunk treatment with metallic editions added on to make it look like Bambi from the future.

We can see it now. Bambi 2, where the new robotic fawn strives for revenge on the hunter that killed his momma, only to be killed himself and stuffed like a Christmas ham. Oh, the irony! So juicy. (more…)

Steampunk Case Mod Remains a Mystery

Filed under: Design, Desktops, Hacks, Hardware

steampunk_case

The coolness of this case mod is plain to see, but what it actually does or who developed it remains a mystery. It appears that the case features an elaborate cooling system and a series of gauges that provide information on various processes like temp and CPU usage, but other than that all we have is plenty of pics–many of which can be seen after the jump.

Steampunk Guitar is shred-a-rific, one-of-a-kind, and…FOR SALE!

Filed under: Design, Hacks, Misc. Gadgets

steampunkaxe.jpg

Up until now, we really hadn’t seen any steampunk made gadgets that rocked our world quite as much as this Steampunk guitar does. Not only can we look at The Villanizer guitar through pictures, but the guitar is being auctioned off on eBay starting this Sunday!

There’s more gears and crap hacked together here than anyone can imagine. And one thing is for sure. This baby is one of a kind. If I wasn’t so sure this guitar is going to sell for more than my life savings, I’d get it myself. — Andrew Dobrow
