9 long years after Starcraft’s release, the long awaited sequel has finally been announced. The riot squad held position as the announcement was made in South Korea, in preparation for the blood bath that could of been over the excitement of the next Blizzard release. Here’s the down low on the game

Very intelligently, Starcraft 2 will not be a MMO, as it was rumored it would be, but rather the God controls similar to the original game. The game will feature the three races; Protoss, Terran, and Zerg, in the classic style of balance Blizzard games are known for. Starcraft 2 will feature a single-player campaign mode, along with a redesigned version of Battle.Net for smooth internet play. Screens and press release after the jump. (more…)

Blizzard can’t help but tease the eager public, but we ask of them, “For the love of God, PLEASE stop teasing us!” Starcraft2.com is now an official site, which redirects to the Blizzard homepage. So is there cover totally blown now for the announcement of Starcraft 2?

Maybe, maybe not. This could be Blizzard’s way of differing us from the real announcement. But probably not. The big question is, will Starcraft 2 be an MMO or the more traditional god controlled game? With WoW still surging in popularity, would it be wise to launch another MMO? — Andrew Dobrow

With recent confirmation of a sequel to the ever-popular Starcraft series of games, rumors and predictions have been floating around that either Diablo 3 or Starcraft 2 will be somehow involved in the MMORPG gaming market. Blizzard is now further expanding this rumor with a job listing posted in the Employment section of their website.

The listing describes the position as a lead programming job for people who think they can “lead an engine-programming team focused on next-generation massively multiplayer online games.” Regardless of whether or not this is for an existing title or something brand new, Blizzard still has an announcement coming up by the end of May. — Andrew Dobrow

Blizzard has tipped sources that an announcement with much more detail regarding Starcraft 2, the sequel to the highly successful original, will be released at the World Wide Invitational, next month in Seoul, South Korea. For now, Blizzard has been keeping pretty mum about anything regarding a new Starcraft, and really, who could blame them.

According to a Korean site, Blizzard is currently developing the Starcraft sequel with 3D graphics. Could there be a surprise World of Starcraft in the future? Oh, how that would make me squirm with anticipation. Playing the first game on Battle.Net was such a ground breaking adventure for everyone when the first game was popular. Now take WoW, and mix in tech and the future, and you have yourself the greatest selling game of all-time. — Andrew Dobrow
