My Wife Left Me Because Of My Cardboard Star Trek Models

I thought I was really into Star Trek.  I have every episode from the original series and TNG as well as many articles of clothing and a beer bottle opener shaped like the Enterprise.  However, Bob Prior’s passion and fanboy-ism for Star Trek far surpasses my own.  He’s created Star Trek replicas from Rice Krispies boxes. From Kirk to Picard, Spock to LaForge, Bob has created over 50 models which include the Starship Enterprise, its command bridge and captains James T. Kirk and Jean-Luc Picard. The funniest part of the whole thing is that his wife hates the show but has been putting up with his obsession all these years.

Says Bob:

“I’ve made models from the start – right through Deep Space Nine, Voyager and the films up to First Contact.”

Deep Space Nine? Ew! Now I know for sure he’s suffering from dementia.

Scotty’s Still Reaching For The Stars

Following the failed space funeral of Star Trek actor James “Scotty” Doohan, his son told BoingBoing that portions of Scotty’s ashes will continue to be launched into space until they finally enter orbit. Scotty’s ashes were lost aboard the SpaceX rocket that spun out of control last weekend, but space burial company Celestis keeps “backup supplies” of their customers remains on hand in case rockets get lost.

Erich Blackhound, one of Scotty’s sons, said that the many unsuccessful attempts to send his father’s body to the stars have taken a toll on him and he’d “like to finish saying goodbye.” Though Blackhound thinks his father would have been glad to be a part of the continuing evolution, he says can’t bear to watch anymore burials for his father and “when news of the next launch rolls around… I won’t be paying attention.” A spokesperson for Celestis told the New York times that space launches are “very difficult” and failures are an inevitable part of the rocket business.

DJ Spock Rocks The Enterprise

DJ Spock knows how to lay down the hot beats. As publicity stunt for the release of Star Trek Seasons 1, 2 & 3 on Amazon.com, CBS put this ad online that shows Spock, from Star Trek, hanging with Kirk on the Enterprise while mixing up some Vulcan rhythms that are so fly, your ears will turn pointy.  Bust out the beers, grab the Enterprise bottle opener, it’s time to get down.

Rocket Accident Scatters Human Remains Over The Pacific

It turns out that space funerals might not be such a great idea after all. Commercial spaceflight company SpaceX had their third failed launch in a row last night when the Falcon 1 rocket began spinning out of control less than two minutes after liftoff in the Marshall Islands. Aboard the doomed rocket were the ashes 208 people including Star Trek actor James “Scotty” Doohan.

Jim Beam me up, Scotty! Please excuse the horrible pun, but how many chances might I have to say that?  If you like mixing your Star Trek watching with a touch of the old nightcap, the Star Trek Enterprise Bottle Opener is the only proper way for a trekkie to pop open a brew.

This silvery doodad is a great way to show off your knowledge of sci-fi trivia, even when you have a blood alcohol level that’s legally deemed as lethal. You can have your very own Enterprise Bottle Opener for around $24. (more…)

A classic line from Star Trek is “Beam me up, Scotti.” Using only colored beads and thread, avid Star Trek fan Devorah Sperber recreated the beaming up look, starring the one and only Captain Kirk, with William Shatner goodness.

Sperber also uses her talent with beading to recreate the Star Trek Holodeck, a great entrance for your Star Trek Entertainment Center, as well as a full wall mosaic of the Enterprise deck to showcase next to Spock’s Spacesuit. To see more of her creations, hit the jump. (more…)
