Joe Satriani Sues Coldplay Over Copyright Infringement

Sucks to be Coldplay, especially when you’re getting your ass sued by Joe Satriani over alleged copyright infringement. Satriani claims that Coldplay’s hit single, Viva La Vida, uses “substantial original portions” of his song If I Could Fly from 2004. Ouch.

It’s not looking good for Coldplay, either. I mean, when your own front man has been quoted in the past, saying this:

We’re definitely good, but I don’t think you can say we’re that original. I regard us as being incredibly good plagiarists.”

It’s certainly not helping their cause. Take a gander at this video and let us know what you think. Is this copyright infringement or just strange coincidence?

Retail Copy Of Chinese Democracy Leaks

The time has finally come – Dr. Pepper owes me a drink. Wait, what’s this? Vince is telling me that I’m not getting my Dr. Pepper until Chinese Democracy is actually released. This pirated copy you see before you doesn’t count. Man, that sucks!

At least it’s got every every track from the album, so we won’t miss out on any of the long-awaited attempts from Axl Rose to regain the sound he had back in ‘87. This V0 retail rip of the album is making its way around the popular BitTorrent sites like What.cd and Waffles.fm. Today is a good day to be a GNR fan. After the jump, .log files galore.

I noticed the .log file shows the ripper’s name in it. David. Axl is coming for you, David.

Blogger Pleads Guilty To Uploading GNR Tracks

Remember Kevin Cogill? He’s the Guns N’ Roses fan that leaked Chinese Democracy songs early and now is paying big time for it. His favorite band hates him and to top it all off he’s facing five years jail time just for promoting Guns N’ Roses’ latest album.

Now Kevin has agreed to a plea bargain in the case and last month, his charge dropped from a felony to a misdemeanor. Right now, he’s only looking at a year jail time, but it’s all going to come down to the judge’s decision. If that judge isn’t Axl Rose, Kevin is in the clear. Otherwise, be prepared to hear some real lousy singing from both ends of the courtroom.

I’m A Dancing Robot, No Time To Talk

Ever since that damn Transformers movie, car manufacturers just can’t get enough of displaying their new cars as dancing robots. Of course, it’s hard to forget Citroen’s line of commercials, which began in 2004 (prior to Michael Bay’s film) and since then has multiplied.

The latest in Citroen’s line of cars-gone-robots is the C4. By C4, I don’t mean the New Look Citroen C4, I’m referring to its alter ego, the robot in the video dancing through New York City to a terribly remixed Bee Gees track. Why must people always taint the Bee Gees?

Guns N’ Roses Hate Their Fans

If you’re a fan of Guns N’ Roses, it’s more likely than not that if you aren’t the guy signing Axl Rose’s non-existent checks then they hate you. They all hate you. Yes, even Slash hates you. Remember that blogger who leaked their latest suckfest, Chinese Democracy? That was an honest mistake any fan could have made. Well, now he faces a long term of jail time for simply being a fan and helping to promote Guns N’ Roses.

They sure needed it according to Eric Garland of BigChampagne, a company that tracks file sharing activity. Garland brings to light the fact that no file sharing of Chinese Democracy ever took place until Kevin Cogill leaked it and then got arrested. Since his arrest, Chinese Democracy has become the whore of torrent downloading.  The question on my mind is why is the FBI wasting time with this and what does the band think of Kevin? Scratch that, no one really cares what Guns N’ Roses thinks.

Blogger Arrested For Leaking Guns N’ Roses Tracks

Chinese Democracy is the Duke Nukem Forever of the music industry. It’s been over 10 years in the making and everyone has lost interest since seeing Axl Rose’s last performance. Then, Los Angeles based blogger Kevin Cogill leaks nine songs from the album which eventually leads his site to crash from high traffic shortly thereafter. No one is sure how he obtained access to the songs but the “band” was pissed and demanded the songs be taken down.

But, the damage had already been done. Users who obtained the tracks had made them available on file-sharing sites. Guns N’ Roses: owned.

Earlier this week Cogill posted a plea for legal help on his blog, writing that, “more and more each day, it looks like I may be indicted.”

Cogill was released after signing a $10,000 signature bond and is scheduled to appear at a preliminary hearing on September 17. Things are not looking good for Kevin as he faces a judicial system of a Chinese Democracy. And here I sat thinking this album would never see the light of day.

Tetris Theme Performed On Bottles (Probably Alcoholic)

I used to spend hours tapping away at the original Game Boy, hoping to improve my Tetris score. While my score sort of topped out and some point, the Tetris soundtrack will always be stuck in my head.

The funny thing is, that there was a setting in the original game which allowed you to choose from an assortment of songs. The default Tetris song was always my favorite. A fine mix of MIDI and Arabian sounds. This video shows a trio of Tetris fans performing the default theme song using bottles. I always knew blowing a certain way on bottles creates a tone but I never imagined composing a full blown cover song with the damn things.

“You’re Beautiful, Mac” sings some girl on YouTube

[ev type="youtube" data="zsqi2QHXaFI"][/ev]

To be blunt (haha we too can make James Blunt puns), this video is purely agonizing. Not only do we HATE that damn song that was on the radio constantly for 6 months, but the woman’s voice (no offense because you’re pretty hot) leaves something to be desired.

I could see it starting as a good idea. A way to get more hits on YouTube. But what it turned into is something between a tribute song and a karaoke pop jam, which adds up to a really crappy cover of an even crappier song.

Even scarier is that her facial expressions are seemingly authentic as she shows her everlasting devotion to her Mac. — Andrew Dobrow
