Bottle Cap Craze

Filed under: DIYs, Design, Eco-tech, Household

Just in time for the 2008 Green Design Festival in Athens, Greece comes a fresh look from Athanassios Babalis. Keeping it eco-tech, Athanassios created a shopping bag and a stool from recycled bottle caps. Think it was an easy task? Oh my friend, you are quite mistaken.

Babalis collected the caps from his workmates and an extended network of friends using 370 to make the bag and 1250 for the stool.

That’s a shitload of bottle caps but it probably wasn’t too hard acquiring them. Unlike Pringles, caps aren’t incredibly hard to design things with. Hit the link below to see a diagram that explains the entire process.

Red Bull Cola

Hell must have frozen over because Red Bull is no longer restricted to energy drinks. It’s just released the latest drink in it’s product line, Red Bull Cola. Apparently, it tastes similar to RC Cola and contains no high-fructose corn syrup, a selling point that could prove key in future marketing campaigns. I can’t remember the last time another big player entered the soda market like this, so it’s good to have a refreshing change of pace.

Currently, you can find the cola in parts of Europe and in Vegas, essentially make it rarer than Club-Mate. By early 2009, you should be able to find it at your local Wawa.

Soda Seal - Preserving Your Flat Mountain Dew

resealable-soda-can.jpg

After taking a good look at Johan De Broyer’s Soda Seal, I have to say I’m impressed. Time after time, soda cans are usually littered about the house, sometimes half-full. Rather than let them sit around and become flat, the Soda Seal would cut back on wasted soda and that’s always a good thing.

The device isn’t intended to be added to cans by users but rather is supposed to be included on the can from the manufacturer. You crack a can, drink some soda and when you want to reseal it, you just twist the tab around and on slides the seal. De Broyer even points out that you could advertise on the seal. What do you think? Useful application or utter crap?
