I Broke My Thumb On My New Concrete Fingerboard Skate Park

The next time your son begs you for a fingerboard skate park, try not to laugh in his face. Instead, be more considerate. Perhaps his new hobby will eventually lead to him going pro and becoming sponsored and thus earning him a living doing what he loves.

Of course, you don’t want to settle for the cheap plastic junk Tech Deck sells, so Peter Thomsen of Instructables demonstrates step-by-step how to make a concrete fingerboard skate park. Your kid will be the talk of the town. That is, if he possesses the strength to carry this thing around with him.

The 10 Best Companies That Create Skateboard Deck Designs

Inventor Spot wrote up a list of 10 companies they feel create great skateboard deck designs. The companies listed are well known skateboard developers that focus on designs that are anything but ordinary. Element undoubtedly made the list, as well as a few of my other favorites such as Krooked and Baker.

What really disappointed me about the list was the exclusion of Enjoi, a company I believe stands taller than at least five others listed. Graphic artist Winston Tseng designs most of Enjoi’s catalog by himself and has created some fresh and intriguing art that is definitely worth the recognition. Seriously, who the fuck rides Alien Workshop anyway? Rob Dyrdek?

Element Push Deck Rides Like A Beauty

Remember that carbon fiber Element Push deck? We were impressed by the craftsmanship of the board, so the folks at Element sent us one to check out. Specifically, the Atchley Stealth. The precise manufacturing that goes into making this deck is incredible and I’m glad we got our chance to take it for a test ride. We’ve even got a video showing the board off with my brother David varial kick-flipping and doing what I like to call the “hot abortion.”

New Element Deck Pushes The Envelope

The lightest most durable decks to hit store shelves, Element’s new “Push Construction Positive Negative” series of decks is leading by example and showing old-timers that wood isn’t good. Element had previously released a featherlight helium deck which trapped air in between the layers of the deck. Combining that with with carbon fiber material has spawned the first three pro-skateboarding sponsor Push Constructions: the “Darrell,” the “Muska” and the “Tave”.

Less wood equals responsible foresting and a more eco-friendly board than others. But skaters don’t care about clean air and clean streets. All they’re looking for is a mean grind and people to piss off.

The announcement of Tony Hawk Proving Ground by Activision is pretty exciting. The game looks like it will be pretty groundbreaking in the action sports genre. For the first time, gamers will be able to define their own character, including their story and style, based on the in-game decisions they make. The new Hawk will also feature a video editing tool to create “epic skate videos”.

Tony Hawk Proving Ground will also contain online play were users can create their own Skater Lounge while grinding out with fellow gamers. Proving Ground is currently under devlopment by Neversoft for Xbox, PS3, PS2, Nintendo DS and Wii and is expected to be released later this year. More screens after the jump. (more…)
