Tie the Knot in Space

A Japanese wedding planning company has teamed up with space transportation provider Rocketplane Kistler Japan. Using half-airplane, half-space shuttle transportation, they plan on hosting weddings aboard a one hour space flight that reach altitudes above 62 miles.

They’re charging a little over two million dollars for such an affair but are kind enough to include a photo and video album, original dress, wedding certificate, transportation to and from the launch site, a live broadcast of the ceremony to friends and family at a reception hall on the ground (talk about impersonal), four days of rehearsal as well as other ceremonial items and accommodations.  These services are supposed to be available sometime in 2011 and the company will already begin taking applications next month.

Shuttle announces the Mac Mini hating X200 mini-MCPC

shuttle x200

Media center PCs are really picking up speed. Even if you didn’t buy a PC with the intended purpose of hooking up your cable to it, so many PCs have a TV tuner in them that the title of MCPC is beginning to lose its glamor. The new Shuttle X200 mini-media center PC completes every objective of Shuttle’s. It has an extremely small form factor (the same as the X100) and has hardware comparable and superior to the Mac Mini. In terms of specific hardware, it will be compatable with an Intel 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo. The upgrade to the X200 also means losing the dedicated graphics, FireWire, and S-video of the X100 and replacing them with true components. Also nice (and necessary nowadays) is the integrated 802.11a/b/g Wi-Fi tuner for your wireless internet at your house. While we do not have any information on pricing, the X200 will probably be fairly comparable to the X100 and Mac Mini. Because of Shuffle’s hatred for the Mac Mini, the X200 will probably beat it in pricing as well as features. — Nik Gomez

It’s the quote from the Shuttle web site that best wraps up what this blazing hot computer is: This isn’t your mother’s XPC… Only the 1337 apply. Intimidating? A bit, but you can handle it. This small form factor machine boasts an Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700 processor, two AMD ATI Radeon X1950 Pro CrossFire graphics cards, two 10,000RPM Western Digital Raptor 150GB hard drives, 2GB Crucial Ballistix memory, and a fully internal liquid cooling system. Good thing that the liquid cooling system is in there, just look at the flames on this baby. Couterstike, World of Warcraft, Oblivion, this computer can handle them all without breaking a sweat. Who knew a small form factor PC could handle gaming just as well as your brand new (and gigantic) VooDoo or Falcon Northwestern monster. Now to the paint, each one of these computers are hand painted with premium automotive paint that takes the painters eight hours to finish. From the keyboard to the mouse to the PC, if you show up at a local LAN party with this setup and don’t finish every n00b around, something is definitely wrong.
