In the not too distant future, next Sunday A.D., there was a guy named Joel, not too different from you and me. To make a long story short, he was abducted by a mad scientist and put into space with a collection of ultra-hysterical robots, most notably Tom Servo and Crow. Cambot and Gypsy had their place, but let’s be honest, it wasn’t as lead characters.

Anyway, for those of you who are nuts-o about Mystery Science Theater 3000, here is a totally rad Tom Servo doll which was crocheted by hand. You won’t be finding this in any store unfortunately, but maybe you could convince your grandma to make you your own. And if that doesn’t work, you can always threaten her with a nursing home, or your fists.

Dentsu Inc, Japan’s largest advertising agency, is aiding Nintendo in launching a video distribution service on Nintendo’s home console, the Wii. The two companies plan to offer programs exclusive to the service, allowing old people and little kids to get down with some cartoons and other entertainment content.

However, nothing in this world is free (except Wii Sports) and viewers will need to pay to see some of the content the video service provides, while others will be offered free of charge so long as they can put up with some unsightly ads. Dentsu and Nintendo will start offering this new video service early next year, while American Wii owners are left in the dark.

Straight out of Hell and right under your Christmas tree is this hotter than Hell KISS-themed I-Dog. Who rocks harder than KISS? That’s right: no one. The dog sports Gene Simmons’ Demon face paint, but also shows some love to Paul Stanley with stars for the Star Child.

It plays back music via a built-in speaker and also puts on an electronic light show, all for just 30 bucks. If this dog was a real supporter of KISS, it’d drop the sassy light show and get to work on some pyrotechnics.

Ready to party like it’s 1998 again? Damn straight.

Check out Alek Komarnitsky’s Halloween light expose above. Very nice and elaborate, no? Alek took the awesomeness one step further by rigging the electronics of his light show up with X10, which is a protocol used to control home automation systems and lights. Look, I know Kevin, Brenda and Dylan are coming over tonight with a bottle of vodka they got a college kid to buy, but seriously guys, if I get caught having one more party, I’m boogered! We’re going to need some tunes for this jammin’ event, so make sure you bring your favorite mixtape, Dylan. Me? Oh, I have this sweet 90210 iPod Nano. I know, right? It has pictures of us all over it, limited edition artwork and only 2000 were available from CBS. Luckily, my dad, who’s a lawyer, was able to get me one. Said it only ran him around $270. Anyways, no matter. It won’t be invented for another 10 years or so. Let’s get drunk and crash our parent’s convertibles!

The picture above is Microsoft’s new fortress of solitude for Bill Gates. Just kidding, it’s actually a fire station in Mexico City. It was designed by the companies At 103 and BGP Arquitectura.  It’s not much of a looker during the day but at night, light shines through the slits in between the chrome-like plates for an impressive light show you’re guaranteed not to find at any other fire station.

Why such a fancy fire station? Well, it also serves as a recruiting center. As such, you’ve got to have an appealing environment if you want to attract heat-craving lifesavers that are not only crazy enough to wear a fire hose, but also crazy enough to take a job that’s about as dangerous as it gets.

Santa Monica recently held its first GLOW festival on July 19th, an all-night event of media art, performances, music, and sculpture. The most memorable of all was perhaps Usman Haque’s art installation called Primal Source. It looks like a smaller-scale northern lights, being made up of a large water spray screen that projects light patterns aided by the perfect backdrop of a darkened sky.

The coolest and most engaging aspect of the design was Haque’s idea to use microphones around the installation that allowed the crowd to alter the display through their reactions and the noises they were making. The cheers and shouts of the crowd made way for a wickedly impressive light show.

Nike recently held an art show in Beijing, China to showcase the history of BMX. All the pros and legends turned out for the event, including Bob Haro, Eddie Fiola and Mat Hoffman. With the spotlight the original Haro Lightning Bolts racing plates, artists showed off their customized plates with many paying tribute to the riding style of the past.
