Donkey Kong Shelves Are Worth the Asymmetry

donkey-kong-shelf

Asymmetry is a big no-no in the world of interior design. But much like any other rule, there are exceptions. This Donkey Kong shelving idea is definitely not symmetrical, but the dash of gaming culture it adds is SO worth it.

Anyway, the asymmetrical parts sort of cancel each other out. Am I right? It brings Donkey Kong from the screen, to the streets, and back to your wall.

Swiss Army Knife Shelf

shelf

Take a close look at this shelf. At first glance, it appears to be nothing more than a typical wooden shelf resting on a wall. But upon further inspection, one will discover a multitude of swing-out shelves built-into the main unit. Hang your keys, put up some books, look at yourself in the mirror. Hell, who cares what you do with the shelf as long as you put it to good use.

Transforming Shelves

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a shelf that’s able to expand and contract to suit your storage needs. This time around, it’s a lot more complex, similar to that of a Autobot or Decepticon. Still, beauty is everything and we’d love to see designer Martin Sammer’s creation in person. Too bad it won’t be mass produced.

Dyna-therms Connected, Infra-cells Up; Mega-thrusters Are Go!

When you’ve got more manga books than you know what to do with, you’ll need some solid bookends. How about these Voltron-themed bookends? It’s the Lion Force working hard to keep those books of yours in check. While I like the Star Wars bookends more, they happen to be sold out, so I’ll need an alternative I can fall back on once our shelves become less cluttered. The Voltron bookends are yours for just $130 bucks, a price that most would be willing to spend just to relieve their childhood.

Corner V1 Computer Desk Offers Lots Of Space To Rest Your Elbows

Using the same uber-macho color scheme as the Battle-Rig Gamer Desk, the Corner V1 Computer Desk looks more like a drum set for one of those Rock Band games, with its circular mini-shelves and arm rests. The Vision One isn’t all bravado. It brings the noise, literally.

Fully optimized for 2.1 speaker support, the Vision One offers space for two speakers and a woofer. What we really love about it is the designated spots to rest your arms as you click away. Hell, you could probably even practice your drum solo on here. — Andrew Dobrow
