Is Necky the Next Snuggie?

Look, even as a fan of the Snuggie, I think this whole Necky thing is a joke. Not only does it look ridiculous, sort of like a turtleneck on steroids (not that turtlenecks aren’t the sexiest style anyway)  but I doubt it keeps you all that much warmer than a normal scarf and zipped up coat. It’s not like the Necky does something incredible like letting me be snuggled up in a blanket as I blog, or allowing me to stay warm even when I read without my arms freezing off.

I’d be much more impressed with a Facey, cover the whole damn head, neck and chest. Now that would be cozy.

Do you have the crocheting skills that pay the bills? Alright, maybe they don’t pay the bills, unless you mass produce on Etsy or something, but can you at least follow some simple instructions?

Head over to the Craftster forums so you can learn how to craft your very own Piranha Plant Scarf. These beauties aren’t officially for sale yet, but if you’re not into crafting yourself, the creator of this project takes custom orders over on her Etsy page.

Noby Noby Boy Hat and Scarf

nobynobyhat1

Your favorite ravenous worm-thing of the moment, Playstation’s version of The Hungry, Hungry Caterpillar, Noby Noby Boy, wasn’t quite our bag when we checked it out a few months. It’s a nice little game if you happen to be drunk and lazing around on the couch, but probably not worth the $5 it costs.

If you’re a bigger fan of the game than we were or just love any type of gaming wearable, this Noby Noby Boy Hat and Scarf could be pretty cool. Let the Noby monster munch on your head for a little bit. You know it’s big enough.

Bacon and Eggs Scarf

Stop the presses. Just fucking stop them. It’s February, it’s cold out and bacon and eggs remain the undisputed king of breakfast. You need a scarf made from eggs and bacon if you’re going to even think about keeping your credibility around in this town. And the best part is, you’re supporting Etsy seller TheHappyCrocheter, who makes each scarf by hand once an order is placed. This ensures both quality and a unique style of craftsmanship that is hard to find nowadays. Did we mention there’s bacon involved? OK, thought so.

Laser Cut Scarf One Ups PT

Phil Torrone over at MAKE is famous for laser-etching designs into electronics such as laptops. Now a small company called Little Factory has one-upped him by producing laser cut scarves that form words out of tiny letters. Versions are available with both uppercase and lowercase letters, as well as a numbers piece.

While I’m not sure if these are the warmest scarves in existence, they’re certainly the most unique I’ve ever seen. I can’t find a price on these so they’re either hard-to-get or one-of-a-kind pieces. Either way, they’re sure to turn heads no matter what hipster city you’re walking through.

Super Mario 1-up Mushroom Scarf

super mario mushroom scarf

We would totally rock this scarf on the upcoming winter days, if only our relatives were hip enough to understand our inner geek as well as our outer geek. $95 seems like a lot for a scarf, but considering it’s 75″ long and is stylish as hell, we know a lot of people who would shell out the cash. If you remember playing the original Mario on Nintendo, there is no way not to feel a magnetic force of nostalgic attraction when seeing the 1-up mushroom. We can almost hear the sounds of the game in our head. Wait, that’s not in our heads, it’s on our TV. — Andrew Dobrow

The chill of winter is in the air and all of us gearheads need to be warm just like our fellow mortals. Sure…many of us spend most season’s inside on our computers anyway, but what about those dreaded trips to the outside? It’s a cold and dark place out there, man! How can you lose with a scarf featuring classics such as Space Invaders? Wait…don’t answer that. Made with 100% Merino wool, you’ll really feel the warmth, if not a little itching. But who needs to be comfortable when they look this good? — Andrew Dobrow
