Concept Nike Glasses Allow Bikers To See Their Surroundings

nikeglasses1

Trust me, I know how important it is to see all of your surroundings when you’re biking. When I was 12 I was hit by a drunk driver. I can only think of what might have happened if I had been able to see what was going on around me. Would I have been able to avoid the hit?

The Nike Hindsight concept glasses give bikers an extra 25% visual range on each side of their peripheral vision. That’s a few extra feet that can literally save your life. The extra angle helps riders see traffic approaching from different angles. It sucks getting hit by a car. Really. You should do everything in your power to avoid it.

UrBonFire: Your Own Personal Fireplace

imm_rephorm_main

Looking to save the Earth and keep warm on those chilly winter days? We’ve got you covered. Try out the aptly-named UrBonFire, a device that lets you have a fire in your living room without the need for a chimney or ventilation. While it looks like the ultimate safety hazard, UrBonFire would be great for small picnics, weekend camping trips and other similar activities, like going to a RATT concert.

Luckily, it’s not in production. Volunteer firefighters around the globe are most like breathing a sigh of relief.

Beer Goggles

The next time you participate in The Great American Challenge, make sure you’re properly equipped. Shotgunning beers can get messy and if any foam gets in your eyes, it’s game over. Stay prepared with these beer goggles. At $25 and $50, it’s a small price to pay for the eyewear of a true champion like yourself. I’m sure the babes will love them.

Collection Of Ejection Seat Test Videos

Oobject has posted 10 videos of ejection seat tests that show the safety measures involved in testing a fighter jet ejection seat in action.  If you thought crash testing cars was extreme, check out some of these videos of pilots risking their lives in the name of safety testing. No crash test dummies here, folks. Only live flesh and bone are propelled in these videos.

What’s That Noise? Just My Kid Drowning

Not every kid can swim like Michael Phelps, though every kid ought to. Parents, we understand. Sometimes you just don’t feel like sitting around watching the kids splash the water from the safety of dry land. After all, if they aren’t winning Olympic gold, what’s the point? That’s exactly why you bought the Safety Turtle Wireless Pool Security System for $167, effectively putting a price tag on your child’s life. Now you don’t have to worry about your kids drowning in a pool just because you were too busy doing the latest New York Times crossword puzzle.

It’s easy to use, too. Just plug the base station in and it will work in all directions up to 200 feet away. If the turtle sensor is submerged, the base station let’s out a wail that painfully reminds you of what a negligent parent you are. The creators of the Safety Turtle are not liable for any loss of life due to your lack of practice with CPR.

Skull Protection For The Fashionably Adept

With all these awesome electric motorcycles sprouting up everywhere, you’re gonna need a sweet looking helmet to go with your new bike. French designer Jérôme Coste has shown interest in crash helmet design since surviving his sixth cranial fracture. Jesus, you’d think you’d quit around three or four cranial fractures, but no, Coste just keeps on biking.

Made from carbon fiber and detailed with chrome-plated trim, these helmets are directly inspired by science-fiction films and as a result, if you fall from a flying car, you’ll be thankful you had one of these stylish cranial casings on your head. Otherwise you’re getting fucked up.

World’s Safest Horse-Riding Helmet

Horseback riding can be a dangerous hobby. One slip and your brain could be splattered over different area codes. No worries though, because scientists at the Royal Institute of Technology and Karolinska Institute have development a helmet that is said to reduce head and brain trauma due to spills by 40%. The helmet was inspired by nature to create the Multi-directional Impact Protection System or MIPS for short.

Simulating the brain’s own protection system, MIPS is based on a dual-layer structure that releases and compensates the rotation of the brain in the event of sudden impact.  This means you’re less likely to have your head pop off due to an awful bail. Unfortunately for bikers, this helmet only comes in a jockey design, for now.

Robot Defeats Forest Fires By Defeating The Forest

cut_robot.jpg

Forest fires are morbid scenes. Sure, there are all of those precious woodlands which are destroyed, but more important, our homes and families are at risk. Enter the forest fire prevention robot, designed by Jordan Guelde. Smokey The Bear (or even OLE, the fire fighting beetle bot) ain’t got nothing on this tough mofo.

Using its vast array of hubless motors, and its integrated fuel system, the “Clear Cut” bot clears out vast amounts of foliage in order to control forest fires. No tree, bush, bunny, or deer is safe when this robot is on the prowl. All it understands is forest fire control and tree cutting. It also doesn’t happen to know the difference between people and trees. Muahahaha! (more…)

Evacusled: Sledding Your Way To Safety

evacubed.jpg

Evacuations are sometimes mandatory in times when a possible disaster could take many lives. This all sounds well and good, but formulating these evacuation plans are not so simple. How do you organize a mass evacuation of a hospital in which there are many bed ridden patients, some of these patients possibly being cancer victims, burn survivors, amputees, or even midgets?

A new product called the Evacusled, looks more like a product used in a mental institution then as a hospital rescue device, but turns hospital beds into sleds, allowing hospital employees to slide the bed ridden right out their rooms. Evacusled only takes one person to load a patient, compared to older methods which needed upwards of 3-4 per bed. — Andrew Dobrow

Pedestrian Turn Signal Glasses Makes Black-Rimmed Glasses Jogger Wear

pedestrian-turn-signal-glasses.jpg

When we saw the Safe Turn wrist blinkers for bicyclists, we thought that the blinking bracelet was a effective way of keeping safe on the road. The Turn Signal Glasses might not be the most practical tool for bikers, but for joggers and cautious jaywalkers, they fit the bill pretty well. (more…)
